Visiting Professor trips give me a chance to get to know residents, faculty, other programs. It’s extra meaningful when I see my mentees thriving in their fledgling careers (kudos @Englot & @kunalraygor) & my buddies from med school soaring as chairmen (kudos @ReidCThompson1). Proud…

We were very honored at @VUMChealth Neurosurgery to have my residency mentor and friend Dr Mike Lawton @mtlawton as visiting professor and named keynote lecturer for our first Resident Research Day in honor of our distinguished former chair Dr George Allen. Amazing talk from Dr Lawton on the future of vascular (and functional!) neurosurgery, and great talks by our residents! @BarrowNeuro

At #NANS2026, we’ll dive deep into some of the most exciting—and challenging—frontiers in neuromodulation: AI, machine learning, and brain-computer interfaces. These technologies are advancing rapidly, with the potential to not only decode brain signals but also transform neurological function for patients in need. But with such innovation comes the responsibility to also consider ethics, limitations, and legal implications. I’m especially excited to welcome Nita Farahany, JD, PhD (Duke University), who will share insights from her book Battle for Your Brain in a keynote address. ⏳ Registration for NANS 2026 opens tomorrow, Sept. 9 — I hope you’ll join us in Las Vegas for these critical conversations. ⏳ Registration for #NANS2026 opens TOMORROW! 🎥 Here’s a sneak peek from our Co-Chairs on what makes this year’s program can’t-miss. Be ready to secure your spot: bit.ly/NANS2026 #Neuromodulation #FutureOfMedicine

ASSFN @ASSFNeurosurg is pleased to announce the second year of our AMPLify mentorship program for medical students and residents, and we are seeking applications for the 2026-2027 academic year. This program is designed to provide early exposure, practical guidance, and networking opportunities in Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery. A key feature of the program is a 3-month visiting fellowship at a selected mentor’s institution. This immersive experience allows mentees to conduct a planned research project under the direct guidance of their mentor while also gaining valuable clinical experience. The awardee will receive financial support to offset the costs of housing, board, and travel. This past year, we awarded four high-impact fellowships to outstanding trainees who are now actively engaged in meaningful clinical and scientific work at leading institutions. To learn more about the program and to submit an application, please visit: assfn.org/healthcare-profess…

Seizures are debilitating for people with epilepsy, and seizure medications are also not completely benign. The International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE) recommends early surgical referral for people with focal epilepsy and a brain lesion, even if seizures are controlled on medications. Early surgery may reduce medication burden, improve cognitive outcomes, increases lifespan, and enhance quality of life. @IlaeWeb @Brain1878 @AmEpilepsySoc academic.oup.com/brain/advan…
