Bill de Blasio did his level best to reorient government in the direction of those who most need it to work. He was at his best in the toughest moments. Serving in City Hall was the honor of a lifetime, made possible by colleagues who taught, supported and saved me every day.

Impossible to overstate how unconventional this pick is. Not from the NYPD. Not from the national cadre of big city policing hot shots. Has never run a department. Lots to like and I’ll be rooting for her.

Jose Andres, a kind chef with no natural connection to this, is going to beat Jeff Bezos to a scene where Bezos’ employees died working for his company.
People of America...tragic day for so many families. I am at DCA airport flying to meet @WCKitchen team in Kentucky responding to the tornadoes. We are working with chefs...food trucks & have WCK teams now in many communities... Will update from the ground soon. #ChefsForKentucky

Lots of overlap between the people performatively grousing about SantaCon and the people who performatively grouse about everything else. I support the bars making money - and Santa!

A school superintendent in the hand is worth two Carvalhos in the bush, I’ve always found.

Cooler November weather has flushed the migratory Christmas Tree People south along the eastern seaboard earlier than usual. Welcome, our annual friends from the forests!

The Left has our share of NIMBYs and politically destructive cynics, too. Praise to the members willing to be honest to their bases and the reform movement.

Chin and Koslowitz supported building new jails in their districts, they’re being replaced by Council members – Chris Marte and Lynn Schulman, respectively – who explicitly campaigned on keeping new jails out of their neighborhoods. cityandstateny.com/policy/20…

I have some silly neighbors. Outdoor dining, w/ tweaks, should remain in many spots. My worry is demand. With dining rooms now open and novelty/charity waning, we're focused too much on who likes it and not enough on whether most places can fill enough tables for it to work.
There's a big fight in NYC over what outdoor dining should look like after the pandemic. I take a closer look at the opposition in West Village, a sign of the challenges ahead for city officials as they put together a permanent outdoor dining plan. nytimes.com/2021/11/16/nyreg…

If you’re willing to project a dystopian view of New York City, the Post will always be with you. But that role gets much harder to play when you’re in charge. There’s zero chance this relationship stays this way.
It's been a while since a NYC mayor had a local propaganda organ. The Eric Adams NY Post relationship feels like a throwback. nypost.com/2021/11/17/de-bla…

Steve’s super smart, extremely caring, and has no ego. He’s an extraordinarily collaborative and effective public servant, leading agencies that often can’t publicize Wins like others.
👀👀 “Steve Banks, the Department of Social Services commissioner for the past 8yrs, won’t say if he’s had an offer [to stay] from the mayor-elect — or whether he’d take it.” ‘Right now, my future is unwritten.’” thecity.nyc/2021/11/17/22788… @rachelholliday @THECITYNY

You guys aren’t going to like it, but it’s almost certain that history will give Bill de Blasio one of the best COVID policy report cards in America. Certainly the best of any local or state official in NY.
"I was confused and confounded by the zones the state created," @BilldeBlasio says when asked about testimony from state health official on @NYGovCuomo micromanaging pandemic response, including color coded cluster zones (this whole thing: politico.com/states/new-york…)

Six weeks away from de Blasio taking office in ‘13 all the talk was of massive policy reorientations. 8 years later and the transition talk is all about a style shift. That seems meaningful in a lot of ways

Manufactured “problem” media framing is lame. If the field were thin, it would be: Where is the Democratic bench?? Crowded with talent, it’s now “messy” and, grab your pearls, “confrontational.” It’s a great field and will likely get even stronger. A good thing.
From the beaches of San Juan to West Hollywood and the pulpits of Black Brooklyn, Democrats in NY are veering toward the kind of messy, confrontational gubernatorial primary fight they once hoped to avoid. w/@katieglueck nytimes.com/2021/11/17/nyreg…

Rodgers is so high on his own supply… it’s insane. I love how the personal doctors he hires to validate his preexisting vaccine skepticism are 100% trustworthy, but the public health experts who universally favor vaccines are the ones who may have perverse incentives/motives.

It would be impossible to draw up a more stereotypical antivaxxer argument than the one being outlined by Aaron Rodgers today. For someone who believes he's a "critical thinker," he sounds identical to every old lady in my Ivermectin Facebook groups and Q Telegram channels.
