#disabilities We need a national disability plan that would be entitlement based, non means tested and portable for all those with lifelong disabilities from birth to end of life. everycanadiancounts.com Every Canadian. Every disability. Lifelong support.

We don’t need more of the same empty Liberal promises that have made groceries more expensive for Canadian families. What we need is for the Carney Liberals to scrap their punitive taxes and get the government out of the way.

That’s reactive versus proactive and lacks insight and empathy. Either provide disabled people (as many are) with support based on need at the provincial level, or pass it on to the feds for a national disability plan. everycanadiancounts.com

Let me be clear that when it comes to public order, I will put transit riders first. That means I’d demand cities enforce strict rules against drug use, menace, occupying multiple seats, blocking aisles, playing audio without headphones, smoking, vaping, camping, and other anti-social conduct that drives paying riders off public transit systems. Repeat offenders should face escalating consequences up to and including involuntary solutions. We do not have to tolerate disorder. And I’ll invest in space to help those in need at the same time. But we should not be a culture that valorizes bad personal conduct as empathy.

It’s time to do something really good for #disabled people/people with #disabilities and their families. #NDIP
Time to get that volcano lair I’ve always wanted. I think it’s in the “Beyond” section of BB&B.

Being homeless doesn’t mean you deserve to die. It doesn’t mean you deserve to be mistreated. It means you deserve housing.

I’m sorry about my ongoing lack of advocacy. Things are already next to unbearable. I don’t know if I’ll survive this. It’s all to much. No job, friends or family. Housing & food insecurity. No ability to get out of flight mode. Constant, unrelenting anxiety. This is not a life.

You lose your job for whatever reason. You become disabled. Illness, accident, whatever. You find out that not only due to circumstances beyond your control is legislation destitution is your only option, but that it has multiple barriers in front of it. You become depressed.

Scary thought that PWD/disabled people should have their disability costs covered. That would set them up for success and we can’t have that now can we? See how stupid that reality sounds? #NDIP

Terry Fox never allowed cancer to become his identity. He became a symbol of courage, resilience, and hope—raising hundreds of millions of dollars for research that has helped save countless lives. Whether you support MAID or not, Terry’s story is a powerful reminder that a diagnosis is not the end of a person’s value, purpose, or ability to inspire others, and that hope can leave a legacy far greater than suffering ever could. @AmandaAchtman

Norway, Finland, Netherlands all do far better at providing support from birth to end of life when it comes to disability by way of entitlement.
Day 2 at the UN COSP, wrapping up bilateral meetings with disability ministers and diplomats from France, Italy, Tanzania and the UAE. Throughout the convention, I’m hearing the same message: in a time of global disruption, it’s our collective responsibility to ensure inclusion and accessibility remain at the forefront of our response.

‘It’ never stops. Why is it so difficult for disabled persons to receive the support they ‘justly’ deserve. #NDIP

Living in poverty means constant stress over basic needs like food, shelter, and healthcare. That pressure harms mental and physical health, limits access to support, and can increase suicide risk. Poverty creates a ripple effect that touches every part of a person’s well being.

“we are fully committed to continuing this work.” That means recognizing we have much to do. Let’s get that round table started to discuss the feasibility viability and desirability of a national plan for all those with lifeline disabilities.
This evening, I delivered Canada’s address to the Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Canada has led globally on advancing inclusion and accessibility and we are fully committed to continuing this work. Because inclusion is not a privilege, it’s an expectation that every Canadian should be able to count on.

Day 3 at the UN Continues 🇺🇳 "In my country, the worst abuse does not always hide in the shadows. Sometimes it wears a suit and calls itself policy." Speaking today at the United Nations, Inclusion Canada CEO Krista Carr delivered a passionate message about the human rights challenges still facing people with intellectual disabilities in Canada. "In Canada, if you are in despair and you do not have a disability, the state fights to keep you alive. If you have a disability, it now offers to help you die. Same pain. Two answers." More than one person with a disability accesses MAiD under Track 2 every day. The UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) has called on Canada to repeal these provisions, recognizing the discriminatory impact they have on persons with disabilities. As we mark the 20th anniversary of the #CRPD, we must do more than celebrate progress. We must confront the policies, systems, and practices that continue to deny people with disabilities equality, dignity, and belonging. We will continue to speak truth to power, challenge discrimination wherever it exists, and amplify the voices of people with disabilities and their families—at home, at the United Nations, and around the world. Every person has a need and inherent right to be valued, respected and empowered to reach their full potential. See video link to Krista's full remarks at the UN 👇 youtube.com/watch?v=mJUGU32y… #COSP19 #DisabilityRights
