Important thread about DV. "Why doesn't she leave?" is NOT the question we should be asking. If we want to help women, we have to ask the right questions. "Why isn't he arrested?" And my own addition to this thread: "Why does the law protect his rights more than hers?"
I came across something I wrote some years back, and I think it is relevant to the "Man or Bear?" conversation. So, a thread, but first some observations: When a woman is in an abusive relationship, what's the first thing people say? "Why doesn't she just leave?"

We have people in power making broad claims around certain drugs and autism that have been continuously disproven. The degree to which those comments can undermine public health, do harm to women who are pregnant, create anxiety for parents who do have children who are autistic – is violence against the truth.

Exemptions increased in 36 states and DC, with 17 states reporting exemptions exceeding 5%. [that means risk for outbreaks like measles because community immunity is below 95%]

Judges' robes are starting to look an awful lot like superhero capes. The judicial branch may save us yet.

It’s called judicial review, and it’s been around since the Supreme Court decided Marbury v. Madison in 1803. If one didn’t mind when justices (who are themselves judges) on the “Supreme Court struck down Biden’s vaccination decree,” then they have no room to argue against the courts striking down Trump’s executive actions. If ANY judge ANYWHERE can stop EVERY Presidential action EVERYWHERE, we do NOT live in a democracy.

Broken ❤️ to see the destruction of my favorite places on Earth. The mtns of E. TN and W. NC are where I spent my late teens and early 20s.These communities provided this Army brat with a place to call home and fostered my love of the outdoors.I can’t describe my grief and concern
Went to help in the Lake Lure/Chimney Rock area today, and it’s hard to describe - never seen anything like this. Post apocalyptic. It’s so overwhelming you don’t even know how to fathom what recovery looks like, let alone where to start. Going to be a long path to recovery that all levels of stakeholders are going to be needed.

For anyone tracking my luck. This was almost 2 years ago exactly. Today I’m in Jamaica - got here 2 days before a record setting category 4 hurricane struck. Officially accepting offers to plan my next vacation. That said - Jamaica is paradise. But - next time-no hurricane pls.
When your dream vacation gets derailed by evacuation orders. Grateful for first responders. We will be back someday, @YosemiteNPS! #WashburnFire

Great to see rural health getting attention! Disparities affecting these communities are staggering - the problem is complex and the solutions will be also. (Side note - as an ETSU alum, love to see this work happening there.)

SBM Friends-I was so excited to finally be back at SBM, but was unexpectedly unable to make it. My AWESOME PhD student is there and has a poster tonight. Please stop by and give him some love. Timothy Adekeye is amazing (and on the post-doc/faculty job market!). #SBM2024

This is unbelievable: "In some cases, child care is now costing more than a college degree." Parents are spending tens of thousands on child care, with MA costs at the top of the list. Check out the reality in @CareDotCom's new report in @USATODAY: usatoday.com/story/money/202…
