This was a philosophy that Joe Banner used when he was president of the Eagles. Here's something Banner said in a wide-ranging interview in 2023:
"We always thought in terms of the efficiency of marketplaces. ...If you notice, people sometimes say, 'Well, if you don't get a pick next year, it's worth one round less.' We didn't believe that. I said, 'When you get to that draft, you're picking in the first round.' ...We never thought that. We thought that's stupid. When you get to the pick, it's a 1. ...The league is devaluing these future picks too much. We were looking for the opportunity in those things."
