In a recent @CBSNews article, Amy Baco-Taylor, a professor in @FSU_EOAS, discusses the significance of a groundbreaking discovery โ€” the world's largest whale graveyard. Located at the bottom of the Indian Ocean, the area is home to fossils up to 5.3 million years old, and one previously unknown extinct species of whale was identified. Also, the site is illuminating scientists' understanding of sea life like jellyfish, brittle stars, bone-boring worms, and more that thrive despite harsh ocean floor conditions. The Atlantic hurricane season is just around the corner, and @FloridaState faculty are leaders in the study of forecasting, evacuation, insurance and building resilience against hurricanes. From @FSUartssciences, Mark Bourassa, Chelsea Nam and Emily Powell are available to speak with media through the 2026 hurricane season and beyond. Bourassa is a professor in @FSU_EOAS and associate director of @FSUCOAPS. He is an expert on the network of global meteorological and oceanographic observations that inform forecasts, and the identification of tropical disturbances, which are possible precursors to tropical cyclones. Nam is an assistant professor in @FSU_EOAS, who researches formations and intensification of tropical cyclones and the hazards brought by these storms. She uses radar data from airborne, shipborne and land-based sources to develop high-resolution models tracking cyclones. Powell is an assistant state climatologist with @FSUCOAPS. She provides information about the historical and current climate and weather of Florida for application across a range of sectors and industries. For more information, visit: fla.st/T1YDVOXE.
