I think about this when I look at my collection tapes and CDs, and when I think about old floppy disks, hard disks, usb sticks, and now cloud storage. Things change so quickly, I feel like its hubris to think that traditional old hardcopies don't have value anymore.
I remember asking, when I was a govmt adviser on archives, how we were planning to make digital archives survive future software and hardware changes. No answer. There's just an assumption that 'the future' will always know how to access Word files. Crazy.
