When legislation becomes the only path to justice for victims of the infected blood scandal, it's a clear signal. @cabinetofficeuk, act with humanity, not when cornered. @UKHouseofLords, let's insist on humanity first.

Josie Quin-Abraham has released the song 'Faces', which is written as a tribute to all the victims of the infected blood scandal and their families. Josie's father, Andrew, was infected with HCV and sadly passed away, having fought a long, difficult and brave battle. He developed Lymphoma after HCV treatment failed and was too ill to have chemotherapy. Andrew died in 2020, roughly 18 months after the Lymphoma diagnosis. Josie contacted Factor 8 after her dad passed away. She said "that's when I really found out the true extent of what had taken place, before then, I hadn't really grasped the situation fully, we were just dealing with my dad's illness the best we could. I then wrote a witness statement for the inquiry and began raising awareness on my social media and following the Factor 8 campaign. I was inspired to write the song Faces having seen all the faces of victims commemorated on the Factor 8 Facebook page and I wanted to express that behind all the faces were people who had full lives, families, careers, hopes and dreams and how these lives were shattered and how we the families have had to learn to deal with and come to terms with our loss. I wanted the song to also have a positive message, in that we live our lives in honour and memory of our loved ones and their lives continue through us and our children and together we try to realise their hopes and dreams." Streaming proceeds will go to Taylor Made Dreams, a charity enabling children with life-limiting illnesses to achieve their dreams. Listen to Faces here - youtube.com/watch?v=v3Vs4HaK…

🧶 Tomorrow, there will be a Commons debate on the Infected Blood Inquiry report, published on 20th May 2024. The day after publication, the then government announced compensation, and @RishiSunak called an election the next day. So, this is the first time the horrific findings..

Please @SKinnock @GwynneMP, is there anything you can do to help get the application process for bereaved family interim payments open? These payments are to be delivered through the existing schemes, so people do not understand why they are still waiting.
One of the bravest people I know. Sam lost his entire family, including his 3-month old sister, to AIDS due to the Infected Blood Scandal. Sam still hasn't received any compensation and is awaiting the application process for interim payments, for unrecognised deaths, to open.

And, @HouseofCommons must have chance to debate the findings of the Infected Blood inquiry. This hasn’t happened yet as the election was announced two days after the report was published.
We hope the new @UKLabour government will prioritise Infected Blood Compensation. Victims & Families have waited too long. #4thofJuly #UKElection2024

On 17th April, the government announced it would make an interim payment of £100k to the estates of those who have died as a result of the infected blood scandal, whose deaths were not yet recognised. However, as of today, those payments cannot be claimed for and have not been paid.

"@Jeremy_Hunt told @bloodinquiry that it was made clear to him when he became Secretary of State for Health in 2012 that: “the @hmtreasury would not support an inquiry because of the potential cost to the taxpayer which (taking into account any decisions on financial support which might follow, such as a recommendation for a compensation scheme similar to that in place in Ireland) could amount to billions of pounds.” He did not therefore pursue the issue and followed the official Government line in correspondence with all campaigners."
