Prime Minister of
#Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze, commenting on relations with the United States, said that “Washington has built a new level of partnership with
#Armenia and
#Azerbaijan without imposing any political conditions on these neighboring countries - neither the release of prisoners nor anything else, not even regarding the opposition. No conditions at all.”
He added that if the U.S. applies different approaches to countries in the region, “it will be regrettable”: “If they see double standards, that will be double standards, and it will be very sad.”
Kobakhidze again said the reason for the breakdown of what was once a very close strategic partnership between Tbilisi and Washington was that the previous U.S. administration (under President Joe Biden) allegedly wanted Georgia to “open a second front” and enter a war with Russia. When Georgia refused, cooperation was halted, he claimed.
Now, the Georgian prime minister says Georgia expects a fair approach from the U.S. and the restoration of relations without political bias.
In recent days, representatives of the U.S. State Department Charles Yocke and Peter Andreoli have been visiting Georgia, holding meetings with both government officials and representatives of the opposition and civil society.
