The Policy also means the Council will redefine the boundaries of the Gaeltacht Quarter to include Andersonstown, and most importantly, Gaeltacht Bhóthar Seoighe - the Shaws Road Gaeltacht, which was previously excluded from the Council’s Gaeltacht Quarter map.

"Four years of delay and denial" - Portadown residents celebrate High Court victory in dual-language signage case. Residents of Woodside Hill of Garvaghy Road presented Armagh, Banbridge, Craigavon Council (ABC) with a valid petition requesting a dual-language street sign in 2022. In 2023 ABC Council carried out a survey of all residents on the street. With only three residents voting against the signage, the council rejected it.

"It's indicative in itself of the progress that we have made around the status of Irish language in society here." Ciarán Mac Giolla Bhéin, President of Conradh na Gaeilge, speaks to The Irish News about the progress being made around Irish language here. It comes as Stormont Speaker Edwin Poots hosted a Seachtain na Gaeilge celebration at Stormont on Tuesday - with the president of Conradh na Gaeilge describing the occasion as something that “wouldn’t have been imaginable for our community only a few short years ago”. The DUP Speaker welcomed pupils from Bunscoil and Naíscoil na Seolta an Irish-medium integrated school in East Belfast, who performed songs and poetry through the medium of Irish. 🎥Dylan Hegarty
