Every year or two I remember what’s probably the most scarily/stunningly impressive linguistic feat I’ve ever seen. Every time, I think I must be mistaken, then I read the thing, and I just shake my head in disbelief. It’s been twenty years. Let me tell you about it.

Good to know where words you use every day come from
TIL: “Originally, the word dashboard applied to a barrier of wood or leather fixed at the front of a horse-drawn carriage or sleigh to protect the driver from mud or other debris “dashed up” (thrown up) by the horses’ hooves.” en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dashbo…

“During the early part of this event, we were unable to update the Service Health Dashboard because the tool we use to post these updates itself uses Cognito, which was impacted by this event” - My favourite part of such postmortems
Just found the AWS US-East-1 outage postmortem is up. Overall: increasing capacity causing more syncing overhead then slamming against configuration limits was the start of the cascading failure - an interesting read! Well worth a few minutes: aws.amazon.com/message/11201…

I'd like to ask my fellow colleagues in the US, UK, and EU: why are you so deaf towards unfolding tragedy in Belarus? 6K arrested, many savagely bitten just cause they protest against the dictator who stole elections. Please, wake up. It should be a front-page story!

📢 CocoaPods is a dependency manager for Apple’s platform, and it powers 75 percent of all apps made. Before, the CDN costs to keep the repo running were paid by an individual, but PSPDFKit is now taking care of the costs. pspdfkit.com/blog/2020/spons…
