A monumental moment for me! It's taken me a few months to process the completion of my PhD and to print my thesis. The last few years took a heavy toll on my mental and physical health. But I'm finally able to say it out loud, I'm so damn proud of myself! โค๏ธ

How meningitis rash looks on Black skin ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿพ Take note because there is no mention of how it presents itself on Black people.
Replying to @MsRade92
these are some of the visuals i've managed to find that show how it presents - it can be much less obvious and easier to overlook. please be safe everyone <3

MAJOR UPDATE: MY SISTER IS SICKLE CELL FREE!๐Ÿฅน๐Ÿฅฒโค๏ธ We had our sibling blood stem cell/ bone marrow transplant 17th December 2025; we got her latest blood results back, over 95% of her blood is mine! SO grateful to our BMT team, our surgeons, nurses, HCAs. My world is healing
I want to share the Bone Marrow Transplant journey between myself and my sister online. But Iโ€™ve spent yesterday holding back tears; stealing moments between appointments to cry; being angry & exhausted and crying all day today. Itโ€™s a lot. Sickle Cell isnโ€™t an afterthought.

Normalize telling boys the stories of what women in the family went through. Boys seem to hear "grandma makes the best tortillas" while daughters hear "grandma was married at 14." Tell the boys the cost of their favorite meals, too.
Whatโ€™s something to normalize ??

Let me explain what this means so that you understand better. . Sometimes tiny cells in our stomach get very stubborn and turn into bad guys called cancer. They grow way too fast and don't listen to the body's rules. . But you see, these smart scientists in Korea didn't want to fight them with big scary bombs and bazookas like old medicines do. Instead they sat the cells on a wooden bench and said "Look here you stubborn cells, why don't you just remember who you really are and be good again? . So they made a pretend computer twin of our belly cells. Just like a magic video game version. (something like that sha) so they played around in the game to find the three bossy switches that were making the cells stay stubborn. . . Those three bossy switches have funny names. They are MYB, HDAC2, and FOXA2. Fantastic 3 lool . The scientists turned those three mean switches Off. Poof. And just like that guess what? The stubborn cancer cells were like "Ohhhโ€ฆ I remember now! . Then they calmed down, grew up properly, and turned back into nice, normal belly helper cells. No more bad growing. They then tried this in Mice, and the poor mice got better. The bad lumps got smaller because the cells stopped being the bullies they were. It's like telling your barking Dog at home to shusss and calm down. And it actually calms down. . . This isn't ready for humans yet, as it's still developing. But it's going to help out someday. And well, a lot of people are gonna be wayyyy happier. . . . Kudos to the scientists once again and I'm super happy about this development and the positive impact it's going to have on affected people ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿพ . โœ๏ธ Vincent The Therapist
๐Ÿšจ: Cancer cells can now turn back to normal cells, thanks to South Korean scientists

When I registered to become a bone marrow donor 12 years ago, it was in anticipation for this moment; when my sister would need a donor for a Bone Marrow Transplant to treat her Sickle Cell Anemia. Todayโ€™s the first step of our BMT surgery but itโ€™ll be a long road to recovery.

Some days I'm able to just keep going, but days like today where I have a quick question to ask, I'm reminded you're no longer here & my heart breaks all over again. Words can't describe how heavy my heart feels. Never did I think I'd be ending this PhD journey without you Doc๐Ÿ’”
