Over the past two days, #sea4soCiety scientists shared ideas, discussed their achievements & next steps for researching #BlueCarbon potential in coastal ecosystems as a method for a sustainable #CDR option at their second annual meeting at @UniHH. @Allianz_Meer@LeibnizZMT
#CDRmare 2nd General Assembly concluded: Scientists & experts agree that removing #CO2 from the atmosphere is essential for climate protection. As the ocean also plays an important role in CO2 uptake & storage,#marineCDR methods &#CCS are viewed indispensable.@BMBF_bund@CDRterra
#CDRmare conference day 2: #sea4soCiety focuses on #CarbonStorage in vegetated coastal ecosystems: the year was characterised by intensive field sampling in the North & Baltic Sea Malaysia, Colombia & Mexico - now mostly completed, but numerous lab analyses are still ongoing.
ALT Overview: coastal ecosystems as carbon sinks
ALT Sea4society coordinator Martin Zimmer (ZMT)
ALT Sea4society scientist & manager Mirco Wölfelschneider (ZMT)
ALT Sea4society scientist Maike Paul (LUFI University of Hannover)
Climate protection is not only discussed at #COP27: In a workshop starting today, #CDRmare scientists discuss #marineCDR options to make a "significant contribution" (10mt CO2 removal per year) to meet Germany's 2045 net zero emissions target.
