Interview Focus for #WorldStandardsDay Academics and experts, like Dr. Flaithrí Neff (@Flaithri Neff) of the Technological University of the Shannon (@TUS_ie), are showing the value of academia to the development of standards. “There is a lot we can contribute to improve people’s lives,” according to Flaithrí. Flaithrí successfully applied for the Research Ireland (@Researchirel) Public Service Fellowship Programme, after the National Disability Authority (@NDAIreland) issued a call for research. Donal Fitzpatrick of the NDA feels that it is essential that more stakeholders, particularly persons with disabilities, are included in the standards-development process. He said: “Persons with disabilities represent a significant demographic group within the broader population and frequently have accessibility-related needs which must be catered for. In order to capture these needs, it is crucial that the voice of persons with disabilities is heard, and that their lived-experience is included.” Read more about Flaithrí’s research and his contribution to standards here: nsai.ie/images/uploads/gener…

Please give serious consideration to installing the @HSELive #CovidTrackerApp. This is a very well-designed and privacy-sensitive app. @UCC @insight_centre @Confirm_Centre @UL
Right now I can confirm that we have now reached 1M registered users of the #CovidTrackerApp. The app wont make you immune to the virus but it can help to reduce the risk. Lets keep it going. Please sign up and encourage your network to do so also. @HSELive #COVID19

As I follow the mounting evidence, I wanted to share my current thinking on why/how SARS-CoV-2 is spreading. It is critical that we understand why/how so we can stop the spread. Note - it is not that different from our Science Perspective published on May 27 (1/)

Replying to @DrEricDing @WHO
I am one of the scientists who wrote the letter described in NYT. Many of the negative comments on this thread relate to a misconception of what "airborne" is, which is shared by the WHO experts. See below the FAQs of my model on the topic.

Those widely-viewed @acsnano papers on mask filtration had some issues. See correction at pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/acs…, for example. We are working on this, too, but good research takes time. /2

Evaluation of decontamination methods for commercial and alternative r... sciencedirect.com/science/ar… Careful work by one of the best labs for aerosol filtration. Don't use isopropyl on your N95s, UV is good, moist heat better than dry for virus inactivation but degrades mask. /1
