Interview Focus for
#WorldStandardsDay
Academics and experts, like Dr. Flaithrí Neff (
@Flaithri Neff) of the Technological University of the Shannon (
@TUS_ie), are showing the value of academia to the development of standards.
“There is a lot we can contribute to improve people’s lives,” according to Flaithrí.
Flaithrí successfully applied for the Research Ireland (
@Researchirel) Public Service Fellowship Programme, after the National Disability Authority (
@NDAIreland) issued a call for research.
Donal Fitzpatrick of the NDA feels that it is essential that more stakeholders, particularly persons with disabilities, are included in the standards-development process.
He said: “Persons with disabilities represent a significant demographic group within the broader population and frequently have accessibility-related needs which must be catered for. In order to capture these needs, it is crucial that the voice of persons with disabilities is heard, and that their lived-experience is included.”
