it's actually related to that one anti natalist post and the discourse around it today for the longest time I didn't get why the servant who hid his talent was *sinning* it seemed like a neutral act to me; he was just scared! what if he'd lost it! kind of a pussy sure but is that a sin? and I think the answer actually is yes acting via avoidance of an unwanted outcome is like a kind of dead existence it's just turning and walking into a wall suicide in life my grandma used to say "anxiety is a sin" and I thought that was so mean, and hypocritical because she was terribly anxious but I think I get her point now god said "let there be" things are supposed to keep going; we are supposed to use what we have boldly

He also seems to like doing this one random floppy move that isn't in the right direction at all, but he enjoys it. And I bet he's going to stop doing it as soon as he starts crawling.

(I'm sitting here wondering what comparable move I make in my meditation, but I won't get to know until later.) I watch him and think that even though I don't know what my crawling looks like, something small is happening in the right direction if I show up?!??!???!

Makes me realize how deep the grind can be, how many times I might have quit before a huge breakthrough. Because the moment he starts crawling, the game changes drastically. You get to spend weeks flopping around, making tiny incremental progress, and then BOOM.

I thought my son was close to crawling months ago. He slowly gets a tiny bit closer every day. Up on his knees and hands right now, he rocks back and forth and then collapses forward, propelling him far enough to reach the toy.

He has no real example of how to crawl. I crawl around him, but I assume another kid would be better. So he really is just creating movement in a direction without a model. Yet he is still creating crawling, and he is so close now.

The vibes here are spread thin as this site gets ever more hyper-optimized for Hot Takes lacking the kind of nuance we are known for around here. A friend is hosting a Deep Takes event where the invitation is to celebrate nuance. With how we think, we belong there. link below

I get the impression that In the past, it was standard for people at parties to entertain each other. Not just singing and playing instruments, but dancing and reciting poetry and telling jokes and "party tricks" and telling stories. What happened? Why is this antisocial now?
