Not even 8:30am and I already had to apologize to the woman sitting next to me on the bus for dropping papyrus on her. Museum life is never boring. For context I have a bag of prop objects with me to do a training. No real papyrus was harmed in this morning’s commute. #MuseumLife
The best about vacationing to see cultural heritage whilst working in cultural heritage is all the pictures you can take of “learning opportunities”. Seen here, man entering a sensitive habitat right behind a sign that says do not enter the sensitive habitat. #CollectionsCare
For every US$100 spent on disaster-related assistance, only 50 cents are invested in protecting development from the impact of disasters. We urgently need to scale up financing for prevention and resilience. #Climatefinance ➡️ ow.ly/j8mE50OZ5A5
ALT Every dollar spent reducing risk can save 15 dollars in post-disaster recovery costs.
As someone who flys fairly regularly I have splurged on priority security check (TSA-Pre). Today while waiting in line the man in front of me turns around and says “this is the tsa-pre check line. I think you are in the wrong line”.
I’m just so confused and wanted to share.
At hotel, hands full of luggage. 3 men get on elevator. one says “You might be staying on floor 5, but we are staying on floor 4”. Dude wanted me to push the button for him. So I pushed ALL the buttons (with toolbox) and stared at him as the door opened on every single floor.
Traditional #Māori construction knowledge passes the tests for resilience to major earthquakes. Researchers from the University of Auckland, 🇳🇿, demonstrated using full-scale timber structures built according to age-old practices. 👉 ow.ly/1irr50Oupbs#indigenousDRR
ALT Recent research demonstrates that Matauranga Maori construction techniques can resist major earthquakes.
Today’s edition of weird things I found in the object files that shouldn’t be there. I bring you a Lebanese and Moroccan restaurant menu!! #RegistrarLife
Ooo, another one already! Today I found in the object file….a bag of sand. Apparently sent by the donor as an example of the type of sand their object is made from. Fine. But not file worthy! #RegistrarLife
We have an upcoming AMA (Ask Me Anything) on environmental strategies for preservation with Rebecca Kennedy of Curae Collections Care! @FoundInMuseums
Don't miss it! Ask her your questions on emergency preparedness before May 31st. bit.ly/433AzBR
I long ago put all my focus and energy into @Arcs4All as I have not felt recognized or valued by AAM for years. And this dissolution of key committee groups has been happening silently and slowly for months.
At opening session and showing up with curiosity.
Will Laura Lott and AAM publicly announce what they have told the PN leadership in private?
If not, here it is. As of June 1st, the 24 professional networks of AAM will be disbanded. #aam2023
Ummmm, @wmata we just waited 30 minutes for the H4 at the corner of Porter and Connecticut and the bus just blew right past the stop. This was after a ghost-bus 15 minutes ago. So many people now extremely late for work. Really really unacceptable.
Ukrainian libraries continue to serve their communities. They offer relief and healing. They continue to explore new opportunities for outreach to serve the army and refugees, and they help unite a nation in the common struggle for freedom. ow.ly/jUHA50OjBya
Had an article come out last week with @norasnoodlings! Managing Mental Health in Cultural Heritage Emergency Response: Occupational Safety and Operational Resilience - Rebecca Kennedy, Nora Lockshin, 2023 journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.…#CollectionsEmergency
Nerd alert: I’m so excited that after 8 months organizing, rehousing, and building custom enclosures for almost 2,000 objects they are moving from a swing space to their final home locations!!!

All I was trying to do was clean out a drawer to store some supplies for a client and instead I find 3 files from 1964 that solve over 200 of their FICs. Guess who is doing data cleanup instead of space cleanup today!
