Unfortunately it doesn’t apply to those zoos, heritage organisations, gardens, museums, galleries, historic sites and other attractions which are charities, meaning that they have been placed at a competitive disadvantage during one of their most important trading periods. Great for private sector, not for charities.
The 'Great British Summer Savings' package announced this week is a huge boost for Plymouth families From 25 June–1 Sept:VAT cut to 5% on kids' meals & cinema/theatre tickets,FREE bus travel for kids 5-15 all August, 5p fuel duty cut extended More details👇lukepollard.org/news/2026/05…

🦋Reintroducing butterflies? ❌Red tape. 🐸Digging a wildlife pond? ❌Planning permission. 🌱Restoring seagrass meadows? ❌Multiple, expensive licences.  💧Creating a wetland? ❌Investment blocked by regulators. YIMBYs and on-the-ground environmentalists have more in common than they might think.
“In other words, our regulatory framework was largely designed to freeze decline in place, not to reverse it. But in a country where nature has already been depleted so extensively, preserving the remnants is not enough. We cannot be held hostage by shifting baseline syndrome.” ✍️ |@kittyraethomp. thecritic.co.uk/the-pro-natu…

This is horrific. According to the Natural History Museum’s Biodiversity Intactness Index, the UK ranks 189th out of 240 countries and territories for how intact its nature and biodiversity remain. policy.friendsoftheearth.uk/…

Despite all the talk and the desperate need for action the Kings Speech failed to mention any action for nature. There is a reason why so many people are turning to the Green Party!

Republican efforts to extinguish the last remaining bison (currently at 0.1% of their former numbers) are truly a crime against America. You literally could not make it up. How any American stands by this is beyond comprehension. Shame on @GovGianforte thetimes.com/article/25b3d30…

You might also like to have a read of this wildlifetrusts.org/news/edf-… ...so that you are aware of the considerable misinformation and disinformation, @ClaireCoutinho which has been put out there on this topic. Thanks.
I think @NaturalEngland is just trying to implement the package of wildlife protection laws which have been adopted by successive parliaments, to be honest. Would you rather our public bodies ignore the law and the will of parliament?

We’re incredibly proud to have supported David Attenborough’s new BBC series Secret Gardens, now live, providing advice and dormouse expertise built from over 20 years of hands-on conservation work 🐭 Our team has spent decades carefully breeding and supporting this endangered species, so we’re really pleased to help raise the profile of dormice and highlight their urgent need for protection. Wildwood’s dedicated conservation team are leading experts in breeding dormice for the national reintroduction programme, which has seen over 1000 dormice successfully reintroduced to suitable woodlands where they have previously become extinct. The series has arrived at the perfect time too! Here at Wildwood, our dormice are just beginning to wake from their long, sleepy torpor. As spring arrives, these tiny, golden mammals are slowly stirring, ready to explore the woodlands once again in planned releases later this year! wildwoodtrust.org/conservati…

We were delighted to officially unveil our new swift box display and information boards at the park entrance at Wildwood Trust, alongside Cllr Steph Jupe in her role as Sheriff of Canterbury. This important installation is designed to inspire and support local residents with practical guidance on installing swift boxes, helping to create much-needed nesting spaces across our communities. Swifts will soon be returning to the UK after their incredible 6,000-mile migration from central Africa, but their numbers are in steep decline, particularly here in the South East. Now listed on the UK Red List of Birds of Conservation Concern, largely due to the loss of nesting sites and a decline in insect food. This makes the timing of this display especially important! We’re incredibly proud to be part of this collaborative effort and would like to thank everyone involved in bringing the project to life, as well as the continued support from the Council and local partners. By showcasing this at our entrance, we hope to raise awareness and empower more people to take simple, meaningful steps to help swifts return, nest, and thrive once again 💚

World Rewilding Day – Join the Conversation! 🌍 This Friday 20th, we’re marking World Rewilding Day with a relaxed and inspiring get-together at Wildwood Kent. Join us for a short, engaging talk from Juliette, a member of our education team, who will be sharing her work on developing a rewilded garden right here at Wildwood. It’s a brilliant example of how small, thoughtful changes can create real impact for native wildlife. After the talk, we’ll open things up for coffee and conversation, exploring how you can bring rewilding into your own garden. 🕚 11am – Midday 📍 Meet in the café 🎟️ Park admission required

Big congratulations to Wild Justice for bringing & winning this case. Dartmoor should be bursting with life & large tracts of restored temperate rainforest. Instead- in large part due to over grazing- it is in many places desolate & with less ecological richness than many urban areas. This case also points to the ancient truth that the so-called ‘tragedy of the commons’ is in fact a tragedy of the *unmanaged* commons and that we need to reform & balance commoners rights with the rights of nature to exist and flourish.
Good news - High Court rules parts of Dartmoor have been mismanaged! Overgrazing has been damaging protected sites on Dartmoor. Read the Press Release about our latest legal challenge: wildjustice.org.uk/dartmoor/…
