The Church in which I was baptised and grew up. Sadly Gloucester Archives hold a letter from a later Vicar consenting (with regret) to matches taking place at the same time as services at St Cyr’s.
Lovely picture of Stinchcombe Stragglers players heading from church to the cricket ground. In the summer some services were held in front of the cricket pavilion and once a year the player attended a Cricketers' Service in their whites before heading to the ground. Cricket and the church were once intertwined parts of village left across England
Civic Sunday Parish Eucharist featuring a guest preacher, guests and dignitaries, and a bit of Bl Nicholas Ferrar’s tomb.
‘Hastings, Sandwich, Hythe, New Romney,
towns whose story now we hymn,
bound in strength with glorious Dover,
ancient towns and many a limb.’
Today's service for the Feast of Candlemas comes from St Clement, Sandwich in the Diocese of Canterbury.
This service is led by Fr Sebastian Hamilton, Rector of @StCsSandwich and St Paul and St Paul, Worth.

A brief calculation reveals I have preached one Gilbert & Sullivan sermon per year since ordination. Last night our hearts, like Sir Joseph’s, may rise when we trust in the anchored Cross. Like much of Pinafore, the anchored Cross is a contradiction and yet makes perfect sense.
However I’m concerned that I see no mention of statements of methodology, significance, need, etc.. He’s going to struggle with the DAC if he doesn’t get this sorted at his earliest convenience.
More packs are still available for free in Church - containing information booklets, a pledge form, and a prayer card - or you can find the launch brocure online at stclementsandwich.org.uk/war…
Over one hundred information packs handed out at Sunday’s launch of the Warm Welcome Project, our 5 year vision for the fabric of our building and six areas of our life together - children/young people, teaching/praying, eco, pastoral care, tourism/visitors, and Little Gardens.
We thank thee Lord who by thy spirit doth our faith restore
When we with worldly things commune & prayerless close our door
We lose our precious gift divine to worship and adore
Then thou our Saviour, fill our hearts to love thee evermore
The epitaph prayer of The Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon. On what would have been her 94th birthday:
Starter: Born Princess Margaret of York, Yorkshire puddings with pistou cream cheese and Parma ham
Followed by: Born at Glamis Castle, Aberdeen Angus steak with Dauphinoise potatoes and broccoli
Ending with: As Countess of Snowdon, Snowdon Pudding (topped with honey from the bees of @StCsSandwich)
Croquet with the stunning view of St Clement’s… Even if some members of the Parochial Church Council now appear to be turning on the Rector…….
Come and hear Joe Grogan (bottom right, our Ordinand on placement) preaching tomorrow morning at the 10:30am Parish Eucharist.
St Clement’s looked stunning on Thursday as we gathered for Liz Watson’s Memorial Service, who devoted much of her life to Little Gardens of Sandwich. We look forward to seeing Little Gardens return, in her honour, in 2025. Watch this space for more…
They’re off! Choir members are heading to St George’s Chapel, Windsor, where they have been invited to sing Evensong.
Members of the congregation, and Joe Grogan (on placement from @CoRMirfield , in formation for ordination), join them for what will no doubt be a memorable day.
