And I'll be honest, a lot of these Caribbean reading lists look like they were curated by the same three people. I want more diversity, looking for recommendations
I’m wondering why so many of these read Caribbean literary collections are missing Indo-Caribbean literature. I notice as well that they are mostly anglo-centric or diaspora concerned.

For decades, the development model imposed on poor countries has been: Open your economy to foreign capital. Sell off public assets. Export raw materials. Compete through cheap labor. Cuba pursued a different path by investing heavily in healthcare & education.

Caribbean traditional knowledge has always been true and our grandmothers are the rightful primary sources

AND she filmed in Jacmel, Haiti, despite the difficult circumstances there right now. AND she had a massive standing ovation at Cannes. Kudos to her, truly

This when CARICOM and the UN are increasingly recognizing "linguistic rights" as a fundamental part of the reparatory justice framework for us
This is linguistic neo-colonialism in action: the elevation of the colonial language as the sole “legitimate” register, while the mother tongue of the majority is treated as informal. Big up the minister for challenging this, she should have had the full support of the house.

The fact that a series set in Martinique, featuring local talent like Djody Grimeau and the trap artist Evil P, can hit 40.5 million hours viewed in a single week and still be discarded is a perfect example of how the "streaming script" is still not written for us.
Martinique 🇲🇶 based Netflix series ‘Bandi’, a French language crime drama starring local Martinican talent, has been canceled after just one season despite hitting 40.5 million hours viewed in its second week and landing in the Top 10 across many countries mensjournal.com/entertainmen…

I am sitting with so many emotions right now Haiti is finally getting some kind of justice! A Miami jury just found four men guilty in the assassination of the Haitian President Jovenel Moïse! It's still just a drop in the ocean of what Haiti is owed but we are getting somewhere

The real Caribbean was never meant for the tourist gaze and moments like this prove it!
All these Caribbean countries bringing out their most indigenous culture — that of the Americas and Africa — to show Speed is incredible to see. Such stark contrast with what these tourist boards will act proud to show. Clearly, the people feel differently

Creamy coconut corn! Popular in Caribbean (Trinidadian🇹🇹) and Tanzanian🇹🇿 cuisine, it infuses the kernels with a sweet and savory sauce. Use full fat coconut milk for the best flavor. How much you eating?
