Being against UBI is totally fine.
But so many of the arguments people make against it insult my intelligence.
For example, the idea that if people aren't forced to work, they will lose all meaning.
Many people dislike their jobs so much that they would trade working just to survive for the possibilities downtime opens up. Since when do we find meaning in doing something we despise?
Has work for survival become our new idol?
What about spiritual work, reading and studying, teaching, family time, growing food, working out, enjoying hobbies, and so forth?
I'd flip this whole conversationβthe fact that so many people think work is the primary source of meaning is a bigger problem than people having the option not to work.
And UBI wouldnβt make working impossible; it just means people could be much more selective about what kind of work they do.
Thatβs freedom and agency at its best.

This is where I'm at.
I despise MAGA and the far right because I believe its love affair with one blatantly compromised man outweighs love of country, but I can and will have a beer with them and explain why they are wrong without wishing harm on them.

In the wake of the assassination of Charlie Kirk, we are going to see a lot of accounts pushing, effectively, for civil war in the US. This includes the rage-baiter in chief, Elon Musk, but also an army of Russian and Chinese bots and their faithful shills in the West.
Do not succumb to the rhetoric.
We do not want or need Years of Lead here in the US. Political violence of any sort only harms our society and empowers our enemies.
Stand firm on principles that have served us well for many decades.
Perpetrators of such violence must be brought to justice. They cannot be used as an excuse to engage in more violence.

The Kremlin has been meemering in the English language about "race war" and "civil war" in the US since the dawn of social media.
I witnessed it myself on the conservative chat boards when I used to be a Republican: The Ron Paul forums. Zero Hedge. The 3%-ers. The NRA folks. etcetera.
By the time the Tea Party took over the Republican party it was safe to say the Kremlin had also taken it. All it took was a li'l kompromat to herd the stragglers.
So here's what I'm saying.
The moment the Kremlin thinks the timing is right to kick off a race war or civil war in the US it will use all its tricks of the trade to trigger us into doing it to ourselves.
