The @WSJ editorial board explains why Albany wants to silence the Freedom Foundation: nearly 7,500 New York public workers have used our materials to leave their unions—more than 1,400 this year alone.
Their "Union Protection Act" doesn't protect workers. It threatens $1,000 fines for the crime of telling public employees they have the right to opt out. As the Journal puts it, unions are "desperate to shut down the Freedom Foundation."

This is a copycat of an Oregon law we’re already challenging in court.
The AG can subpoena and fine anyone, in any state, $1,000 per “incident." As the WSJ notes, that adds up fast on mass mailings — the point is to make us stop, or bankrupt us if we don’t.
The Journal calls it what it is: a Union Protection Act.
It chills free speech. It denies public employees — whose salaries taxpayers fund — basic information about their rights. And it rewards union bosses who have spent decades growing fat and unaccountable on forced dues.

Last Wednesday night, the United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA) House of Representatives voted to expel Amy Leserman — an Orthodox Jew, 25-year UTLA member, LA public school teacher, and chair of the Educators Caucus for Israel, @kdeutschjourno explains on his Substack.
UTLA denounced Amy by name, branded Zionism “racism,” and accused her of “targeting union activists”.

The Freedom Foundation is proud to stand with Amy Leserman and other Jewish LA teachers in their federal lawsuit challenging forced representation by UTLA.
Filed on October 7, 2024, the suit exposes how a union that promotes hostility toward Jewish identity and safety cannot be allowed to forcibly “represent” Jewish workers who pay dues against their will. A federal district court dismissed the case in 2025. We have appealed to the Ninth Circuit, and we're not backing down.
This is bigger than one union or one teacher. Across the country, public-sector unions are demanding monopoly power over workers while pushing agendas that threaten Jewish Americans.

We agree.
