The Gentle Neighbor: The Life and Legacy of Fred Rogers Fred McFeely Rogers, known to generations simply as Mister Rogers, was a quiet revolutionary who transformed the airwaves into a sanctuary of kindness. Born on March 20, 1928, in the small town of Latrobe, Pennsylvania, Rogers grew up in a world shaped by both comfort and challenge. The son of a successful brick manufacturer and a devoted mother, he navigated a somewhat introverted childhood marked by illness and shyness. These early experiences fostered a deep empathy that would define his life’s work. A gifted musician, Rogers earned a bachelor’s degree in music composition from Rollins College in 1951. He initially entered television almost by accident, working behind the scenes at NBC in New York. Disillusioned by commercial broadcasting’s superficiality, he returned to Pittsburgh in 1953 to help launch WQED, the nation’s first community-supported educational television station. There, he co-created The Children’s Corner, honing his skills as a puppeteer, composer, and gentle storyteller. He later pursued ordination as a Presbyterian minister in 1963, viewing his television ministry as a profound form of service to children. In 1968, Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood premiered on PBS, inviting young viewers into a calm, cardigan-clad world of trolleys, Neighborhood of Make-Believe puppets, and heartfelt conversations. Over 895 episodes spanning more than three decades, Rogers addressed the emotional realities of childhood—divorce, anger, death, and self-worth—with unflinching honesty and profound respect. He composed over 200 songs, operated puppets, and spoke directly to the camera, affirming to every child: “I like you just the way you are.” His unhurried pace and sincere curiosity stood in stark contrast to the frenetic cartoons of the era, offering a television experience rooted in emotional intelligence and moral imagination. Rogers retired from producing new episodes in 2001, but his final original broadcast carried the same warmth and continuity that defined the series. Less than two years later, on February 27, 2003, at the age of 74, he passed away at his Pittsburgh home after a courageous battle with stomach cancer. His wife of nearly 50 years, Joanne, was by his side. In a noisy world, Fred Rogers reminded us that true strength lies in gentleness, that listening matters, and that every person is worthy of love. His legacy endures not only in reruns and the enduring Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, but in the quiet compassion he instilled in millions. As he often said, in times of trouble, we should look for the helpers. Fred Rogers was one of the greatest. We should all strive to be more like Mr. Rogers. Where being kind, humble and honest is cool. An American treasure. 🤍 S

Hey @BernieSanders Sell one of your many houses and YOU help someone who needs it. The hypocrisy is so unbelievable with the left. Especially the progressive left. Elon Musk’s money is none of your business. Seek help for your TDS too.

This is exactly right. Who gave them the ok to do this... we did. Being complacent. Allowing it over and over and over again. Some cities near me it's illegal to have rain barrels... Fishing licenses. Hunting licenses. Etc. Things need to change...

Journalist Murdered in Mexico Received Threats from Law Enforcement Being a journalist in Mexico is a very dangerous job!😳 The cartels pretty much control everything. 😉 Thank goodness for Trump closing the border to try and curb cartel violence from spreading across the border. The problem is, the cartels have already gained a foothold in the US while Biden left the border open for them. I have heard they control some cities in AZ. Most likely NM as well. Let's hope we can clean them all out! From the article: A group of gunmen shot and killed a journalist in Mexico. The crime comes just days after a female journalist was kidnapped in the same state of Veracruz. The attack is even more alarming as the murdered journalist was under government protection after having received threats from law enforcement. The murder took place early Thursday morning when Luis Angel Lopez Valdez traveled along a busy avenue in Poza Rica, Veracruz. A group of gunmen pulled up alongside him and opened fire before speeding away. By the time authorities responded, Lopez was already dead. The journalist was a crime reporter for Vanguardia Newspaper. He also ran his own crime blog and served as a regional director for the first-aid organization Amber Cross. According to Mexico’s Zeta magazine, Lopez was under government protection after having been the target of threats from alleged law enforcement officials in connection with his work as a journalist. As Breitbart Texas reported, Veracruz is one of the deadliest places in Mexico for journalists due to the impunity with which cartels operate in that state. Those cartels are often protected by government officials at the highest levels who have a long history of looking the other way in exchange for bribes and political support. The murder of Lopez comes days after a group of gunmen stormed into a home in rural Veracruz and kidnapped Roxana Guzman, a female journalist who had exposed widespread cartel corruption in the region. Her fate remains unknown. The international press freedom group Committee to Protect Journalists documented Lopez’s murder and has been pushing for transparency in the case. The organization has a long history of documenting attacks on journalists in Mexico, which it labels as one of the most dangerous places in the world for news workers. Link to article in comments

Trump is right to point out the trajectory of this $830M project. The Obama Library opens amid Chicago’s ongoing struggles—crime rates, homicide rates, failing schools, persistent homelessness. Ten more years of the same? It will be a Mecca for criticism. truthsocial.com/@realDonaldT…

Fraudsters post videos online bragging about how they live after ripping off taxpayers. How stupid do criminals have to be to make a video confessing to their crimes. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law.
