In 1993, Evan Chandler was involved in a dispute concerning allegations that Michael Jackson had molested his son, Jordan Chandler.
During that time, Evan Chandler had a phone conversation that was secretly recorded by his then-wife's boyfriend, David Schwartz.
In the recording, Chandler can be heard angrily
discussing his intentions toward Michael Jackson.
According to widely circulated transcripts of the tape,
Chandler said he would "destroy" Jackson and that Jackson's career would be over.
He also discussed pursuing legal action and obtaining
a large financial settlement.
The recording was later turned over to authorities and
became part of the broader legal controversy.
In January 1994, Michael Jackson agreed to a civil settlement reportedly worth over $20 million with the Chandler family.
The settlement did not include an admission of guilt.
• No criminal charges were filed against Jackson in
1993 related to the Chandler allegations.
