🦉🐦🦢Exploring species richness change across scales! We decomposed it into colonization, extinction, and persistence, and unveils patterns from local to national scales. Thanks to the guidance of @R_you_cereal, we connect theory with ecological processes

Shifts in Danish bird communities over the past 40 years are linked to climate & land-use change. Using volunteer bird observations, we found that local species richness fell slightly, abundance dropped 7% per decade, and composition changed rapidly 🐦⬛

Very good news! Our new review paper lead by Dr. Moudrý is published in @EcographyJourna. Take a look to dive into sample size, positional uncertainty, sampling bias, and species ecology individual and combined effects on Species Distribution Models. nsojournals.onlinelibrary.wi…
Does conservation work? Our paper by @rewild shows that it does: a global analysis of 665 trials (incl. several by @RSPBScience) found that conservation improved the state of biodiversity or slowed declines in two-thirds of cases @BirdLife_Sciscience.org/doi/10.1126/scie…
Very nice opinion paper in @Trends_Ecol_Evo by @callaghanct, Luca Santini, @BecksSpake , and @BowlerDBear showing that most abundance estimates are relative estimates. They argue for more attempts at estimating absolute abundance sciencedirect.com/science/ar…
The blog post about our paper on the resistance and recovery of grasslands under extreme drought is finally out on the blog of @JEcology. Special thanks to @R_you_cereal, who gave the post the right touch to make it enjoyable for a wide audience!

New preprint: Our attempt to link local individual-level ecological processes (Allee effect, Janzen-Connell hypothesis) with different rates of species loss at different spatial scales (thnx to @adam_t_clark, @FrsLry, @vojta_bartak):
biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…
Preprint 🚨 On the acceleration and processes (recruitment & loss) behind the decline📉 of birds🐦in North America. We mapped the continental decline and show the acceleration hotspots in the Midwest, Mid-Atlantic and California (but that's not it 🧵👇)
ecoevorxiv.org/repository/vi…
⚠️ Last but not least: out of the 253 species with increasing abundance, 96% show a decrease in recruitment rate as the main process, raising concerns about eventual declines, even for seemingly thriving species 🧵👇
I would be glad to have feedbacks, opinions and comments on this preprint. DM and email are open! Finally, a big thanks to the coauthors, @R_you_cereal and @majarzyna with whom this manuscript wouldn’t have been possible
First paper related to my project #COCOS out in @JEcology! We used time-series of plant biomass from the @BExplo_research to assess how biodiversity🌱relates to grassland resistance and recovery under extreme drought🔥 @MSCActions @kpv_fzpdoi.org/10.1111/1365-2745.14…
