Amazing to see this, because yeah, after reading @edzitron's "The Shareholder Supremacy" (wheresyoured.at/tss/) I came to notice that in fact, "Leadership" of corporations most commonly does not exist in the fundamental human world, but in some constructed alternate reality.

I want to deal with the most important dynamic, and perceptual obstacle, blocking action to address the climate and ecological emergency. It's why our leadership, is failing to properly acknowledge the science, and not acting appropriately. It's vital people understand this. 1/

Test fit of the annular ring ion thruster. Lapped and polished the diameters, assembled with 0.0005" / 12.7 micron shim stock, tighten bolts, yank shims. Leaves a concentric gap 9-30 microns wide between inner/outer pieces (inner is a bit out of round so it varies)

So apparently the March ruling of the Court of Justice of the European Union about free access to harmonized standards has actual real world impact now. Kinda unbelievable. official.resource.org/@carlm…

I worked on train signaling systems, which also have different safety integrity levels. Designing and implementing a SIL4 system from scratch was challenging, but I learned a lot. However, we didn't use a built-in real-time OS like VxWorks; we implemented our own real-time OS.

I'm excited to see more progress for open-source RTOS(s). Traditionally this has been reserved for proprietary, extremely expensive operating systems; but with modern linux kernels it's possible to experiment with some of these concepts at a hobbyist level. I've barely even scratched the surface of this space, if you're interested in it, I highly recommend checking out Elana Copperman & Shuah Khan's talk on RT Linux in Safety-Critical Systems, as well as lwn's archive on preemption as a start: youtube.com/watch?v=ShcEarZT… lwn.net/Kernel/Index/#Preemp…

Pretty sure when this became a war time necessity, people will figure out a way like the mass produced magnetron, stamped with precision and then stacked. m.youtube.com/watch?v=p8IO9u…
