How much does start procedure change youth soccer testing results? A lot. Led by @EBezuglov81776 with @TimVakhidov, @kapralovaeliz, @Vinogradovcoach and co-authors - in 82 elite academy players, a 100 cm start produced faster times than 30 cm, with the biggest effects at short splits: about 7% at 5 m, 5.6% at 10 m, tapering to 2.7% at 30 m. COD and T-test also improved. So: don’t mix protocols. Report start distance and randomize order. Do anti-doping programs actually work? Led by @VassilGirginov with @EBezuglov81776, @C_L_E_A_N_SPORT, @tarryn_sport and international co-authors, this new paper in @Sage_Publishing’s Journal of Sport and Social Issues suggests the better question is: are they well designed and well evaluated? Across 12 interventions in 4 countries the picture is complex: strong WADA-driven compliance pressure (@WADA_AMA), repeated formats, weak impact evaluation, and too little alignment between program goals and what actually gets measured. journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs… Credit to key voices shaping the field: @susanbackhouse, @NikosNtoumanis. #FutureLab #CleanSport #SportsScience

Smelling salts in sport: not magic, not useless. Led by @EBezuglov81776 with @kapralovaeliz. @TimVakhidov. Our systematic review of 8 studies (142 participants) found mixed evidence: 4 positive studies, 3 with no clear effect, and 1 negative finding in a precision task (golf postural stability). Evidence is still limited - especially in elite athletes and with standardized protocols. dialnet.unirioja.es/descarga… #FutureLab #SportsScience #StrengthTraining

Led by @EBezuglov81776: Music as a legal, low-cost ergogenic aid in team sports? Our systematic review published in @FrontSportsAL (8 studies, n=140) suggests mostly positive effects on sprint/RSA, jump/power and some load-tolerance markers - but protocols vary and no elite adult international-level athletes have been studied yet. Practical reality: in teams, preference communication are the bottlenecks → individual devices may be best in training. Building on foundational work by Costas I. Karageorghis, @hamdi_chtourou, and @DoctaBallmann. #FutureLab #SportsScience #SportsMedicine

Skeletal vs chronological age in young soccer players – AMSSM 2024, Baltimore. In our cohort of elite and sub‑elite academy players, skeletal age was significantly ahead of chronological age, and elite players showed higher skeletal age and somatic maturity than sub‑elite peers. This has clear implications for talent ID, competition standards, and how we interpret ā€œearlyā€ or ā€œlateā€ developers. Presented at #AMSSM 2024 @TheAMSSM, Baltimore Convention Center. At FUTURE LAB, our work now spans four main areas: 1ļøāƒ£ Talent identification and development pathways 2ļøāƒ£ The impact of football and training load on the developing body 3ļøāƒ£ Use and monitoring of ergogenic (performance‑enhancing) substances in sport 4ļøāƒ£ Conservative treatment of injuries and musculoskeletal conditions in athletes We’re open to collaborations in these domains – from joint research projects to club and academy partnerships. If this aligns with your work, let’s connect. #FutureLab #SportsMedicine #FootballScience

Testing days at the Lab. From indoor pitch to force plates, timing gates and agility setups, we’re stress‑testing real football actions – sprints, decels, turns, jumps and finishing – not just ā€œlab drillsā€. Objective profiles → clearer training decisions, smarter RTP calls, and individualized development for every player who walks through the door. Our team works across @PFCCSKA_en Science & Medical Departments, and this session features Academy and youth players going through our #FutureLab protocols. #SportsScience #FootballScience

Mouth-rinsing as an ergogenic ā€˜brain hack’ in team sports: evidence is mixed. Carbs often don’t move the needle; caffeine rinse looks most promising (especially for reaction time), and menthol helps heat comfort. Safe in the included RCTs - but don’t expect magic: doi.org/10.1007/s11332-026-0… @SpringerNature @EBezuglov81776 #SportsScience #TeamSports #ErgogenicAids
