Today marks the start of 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence and GCU is committed to ending gender-based violence in all its forms. Over the next 16 days, GCU will join a global network of organisations to deliver a range of activities that supports our ongoing wider gender based violence prevention and response programme of work. You may notice our award winning Erase the Grey campaign banners and posters across our Glasgow and London campuses over the next few weeks. The campaign was designed by GCU students in 2018 and aims to tackle the myths around gender-based violence as well as to act as a call to action and raise awareness. There are a number of services available which can offer support, both within the University and externally. ▶️ Our Report and Support platform also allows you to report any instances of gender-based violence, sexism, racism, discrimination, bullying, harassment or any other offensive conduct. ▶️ Our First Responders Network; a group of dedicated staff members trained to take disclosures of gender based violence and signpost to support services ▶️ Our gender-based violence policy covers both staff and students and ensures we provide a consistent, caring, and timely response when any member of our University community is affected by gender based violence More information on Report and Support 👉 bit.ly/3xVKxIu Find out more about our First Responders, our gender-based violence policy and how GCU is tackling gender-based violence 👉 tinyurl.com/ffm59zr6

It's #StudentSpotlight time once again! 🌟 Nima Sherpa spoke to us about how studying a Masters in Diagnostic Radiography at GCU has been the perfect next step in his career 💙 Psychology was Nima's initial passion after being inspired by his loved ones whilst growing up in India. Nima has since went on to look at the effect of creatine on depression and is hoping to use the knowledge gained from his Masters to further enhance his research 🧠 He said: "I completed my Undergraduate and Masters in Psychology back in India, where I’m from. The reason I studied Psychology was because of the mental health struggles I saw within my family. It really intrigued me. "I then did a two-year Masters in Applied Psychology, and that’s where I stumbled upon creatine, which is used by athletes, MMA players, rugby players. I was interested to see if this nutraceutical product had an anti-depressant effect. "Creatine, in very simple terms, holds water and in turn gives you more strength. As far as I’m aware, it first became popular during the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. "The talk back then was that it was a steroid and should be banned. After years of research, it’s been shown to be safe. The research team I worked with were the first group to show that creatine actually has anti-depressant effects."
