This is why I get so annoyed at the dumb conservatives who denigrate “sports ball” or whatever. Sports are a fundamental part of culture, just like art. You can’t pretend that you want to preserve American culture while at the same time totally dismissing these elements of culture. You don’t have to be a fan of any particular sport, but to write off the whole thing as beneath you just makes you a pretentious dork at best, or a nihilist at worst. Or both.
