GMHC stands with New York State’s LGBTQ communities in opposition to S.460, a transphobic bill that endangers the rights, well-being, and safety of transgender and gender-nonconforming students. We urge the state legislature to reject this harmful bill.
Today, the Council held its Stated Meeting, passing legislation to protect civil rights and healthcare access for trans and gender non-conforming New Yorkers, reform non-essential helicopter operations to address health/quality of life issues, and more!
Today, @NYCCouncil is voting on vital legislation to protect and uplift transgender, gender non-conforming, non-binary, and intersex New Yorkers. These bills expand access to care, education, and safety-because everyone deserves to live authentically and free from discrimination.
STATED THREAD🧵
Today, @nyccouncil voted to pass my bill — The Affirm Act. It protects anyone receiving gender-affirming care in NYC from lawsuits by anti-trans entities by allowing them to counter-sue for damages.

GMHC was awarded additional funding from the New York City Council from a new fund called "Protect NYC Families Initiative."
The purpose of the initiative is to allow providers to expand their capacity and respond to evolving challenges facing New York City’s immigrant communities. This funding comes as nonprofit providers continue to face overwhelming demand for services given escalating federal immigration enforcement and abrupt policy shifts.
Thank you to to @NYCCouncil@NYCSpeakerAdams@DianaAyalaNYC and @CMAlexaAviles for supporting immigrant New Yorkers, including those living with and affected by HIV and AIDS.
Decades ago, we faced AIDS denialism, a dangerously tragic concept. Denying the reality of the HIV and AIDS epidemic has negatively impacted the lives of thousands of people in the United States and has prevented access to HIV-related medications and care services. We must support science over stigma. Repeating the sad history of denying that HIV causes AIDS will only lead to increased infections and unnecessary deaths.
GMHC will be here to serve. We will continue to provide housing, food, legal and immigration support, mental health and substance use services, HIV/STI testing—and more—in a safe and non-judgmental space for thousands of people living with affected by HIV and AIDS.
