US monitoring of human rights overseas may be about to change drastically. If this happens, it will be catastrophic for human rights defenders, asylum applicants, and many others. And could impact human rights accountability here at home. Listen 👇 one.npr.org/i/nx-s1-5357511:…

NEW: Oliver Anthony blasts Fox News for using his song ‘Rich Men North of Richmond’ at the GOP debate, says it made him “crack up” because he wrote that song about “those people.” “It's aggravating seeing people on conservative news try to identify with me like I'm one of them. It's aggravating seeing certain musicians and politicians act like we're buddies and act like we're fighting the same struggle here.” “It was funny seeing it at the presidential debate 'cause it's like I wrote that song about those people, you know, so for them to have to sit there and listen to that, uh, that cracks me up.”

A bit awkward but apparently there was a LaLa Land/Moonlight situation with the Murrows this year and I won an award for my reporting on the Fall of Roe. Obviously I’m honored and feel bad for everyone about the glitch, but mistakes happen. Thank you! rtdna.org/news/rtdna-announc…

Received a note that two of NPR's international correspondents are visiting Washington. Our editor called them "the Flungs." As in our far-flung colleagues! Years after many news orgs shut down most or all overseas bureaus, NPR still covers the world. Here's to the flungs.

Wade was a dream of a reporter - deeply sourced and always connecting people with people. A unique voice and a good man. RIP.
NPR newsroom leader Edith Chapin, in a memo, says our former colleague Wade Goodwyn has died, after years fighting cancer. He was 63. Wade lived a rich and varied life before becoming one of NPR’s signature voices—a Southern-accented baritone that carried listeners to Texas.
