Tonight, the U.S. kicks off its 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign on home soil with Paraguay vs the USA. But the game goes beyond what happens on the pitch. When it comes to human rights, the governments of every nation still have work to do to. As the 2026 World Cup gets underway, we're calling on the governments of host and participating countries to show that respect for human rights is part of the game, too. Because when the ball starts rolling, humanity must win. ➡️ Take action now: bit.ly/4oAag1R

As the men's World Cup kicks off, thousands of fans from around the world risk being shut out of one of the biggest sporting events on the planet. Instead of cheering from the stands, many are facing travel bans, visa denials, and threats of aggressive immigration enforcement from the US. With several participating countries subject to a US travel ban, and ongoing racial profiling and arbitrary arrests by ICE and other federal agencies, the country’s Draconian immigration policies threaten to spill over into an event that is meant to bring people together - not tear us apart. The World Cup belongs to us all. There is no World Cup without the world. Humanity Must Win.

The United Nations’ top human rights official is calling for a "massive rethink of how immigration enforcement is respecting human rights and human dignity." We couldn't agree more: The Trump administration's targeting and mass detention of immigrants, abusive enforcement practices, and policies that separate families and undermine human rights must end. Humanity must win. apnews.com/article/world-cup…

Third-country deportations are a cruel tactic in the Trump Administration’s anti-immigrant agenda, uprooting people and sending them to countries where they have no ties, support systems, or protections. If reports are true that individuals with no connection to the Central African Republic will soon be deported there, it is unconscionable. Such actions would place people at serious risk and heighten the likelihood of human rights abuses. reut.rs/4fDfebI

Video after video shows Israeli settlers violently harassing and violently attacking Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, seizing their livestock, bulldozing their schools, setting fire to their property and even killing Palestinians as part of a brutal campaign to forcibly displace Palestinians and expand control over the land– with full political and financial backing from the highest authorities of the Israeli state. This is what a policy of state-led ethnic cleansing looks like. Read our full report that documents how Israel is ethnically cleansing Palestinian Bedouin and herding communities in Area C of the occupied West Bank in a bid to expand settlements, entrench apartheid and accelerate annexation: amnestyusa.org/reports/erasi… Watch. By approving billions in new funding for ICE and CBP despite ongoing reports of human rights violations and other abuses, lawmakers have shamefully rewarded agencies that have carried out militarized raids, unlawful arrests and detention, racial profiling, and other actions that have terrorized communities across the country. The approval of nearly $70 billion for ICE and CBP doubles down on fear, violence and tearing families apart and gives a nod to the Trump administration that it is free to continue this disastrous and cruel system without facing accountability. More than 60,000 Amnesty International members and supporters urged Congress to reject this funding. We will continue fighting to end mass detention, abusive enforcement practices, and policies that separate families and undermine human rights.

As the Turkish government’s repression of political opponents, protesters, human rights lawyers, and journalists deepens, it is imperative that the U.S. government call on Türkiye to uphold its obligations under international human rights law. Congress and the Trump administration must not allow Türkiye’s government to use its geopolitical position to distract from President Erdoğan’s assault on the rule of law and civic space. It must be made clear that the violation of human rights and crackdown on civil society are unacceptable. Read our statement on the human rights conditions in Türkiye, as submitted to @TLHumanRights. amnestyusa.org/wp-content/up…

As fans from around the world travel to the U.S. for the World Cup, and communities across the country are ready to celebrate their teams, the threat of racist immigration enforcement by ICE and CBP is all too real. Congress has a choice: supercharge ICE and CBP with $70 billion as they continue to violate human rights and cause fear and chaos, or decide that HUMANITY MUST WIN. Tell Congress: Vote NO on this outrageous reconciliation bill. bit.ly/4unKuz6

As people around the world prepare to come to the U.S. for the World Cup, all fans, players, referees, journalists, and families should be welcomed, not shut out by the Trump administration’s discriminatory visa restrictions targeting people from certain countries or be arbitrarily searched or detained in U.S. airports. 50 deaths is 50 too many. 50 people whose loved ones are left mourning with no justice, no accountability. Congress must not reward this cruel, deadly machine and instead stop the $70 billion reconciliation bill in its tracks. bit.ly/4v1xm40

The House is voting on this disastrous package as soon as TODAY. Pick up the phone and tell your representative to vote NO on the Reconciliation Bill!
Last night’s Senate vote is shameful. By voting for tens of billions in new funding for ICE and CBP despite ongoing reports of human rights violations and other abuses, Senators have rewarded agencies that have carried out militarized raids, unlawful arrests and detention, racial profiling, family separation, and other actions that have terrorized communities across the country. Now it’s in the hands of the House of Representatives. Hear our call: Not another dime for ICE or CBP! Vote NO on the Reconciliation Bill. act.amnestyusa.org/page/1676…

Thank you for raising awareness of this issue @TLHumanRights. Congress should tell Pakistan's government that practicing law is not a crime. Enough with the delays - release Imaan Mazari & Hadi Ali Chattha now. Read more here: amnesty.org/en/documents/asa…
Convicted in a secret, one-day trial that denied them due process, human rights lawyers Imaan Mazari & Hadi Ali Chattha face more delays. Last week, the Islamabad High Court postponed their hearing because the prosecution failed to show up. Pakistan must release them now.
