This is precisely the trap NATO must avoid.” GSSC Director @LinasKojala has published an op-ed in The Guardian on the drone threat to NATO security and the need to strengthen the Alliance’s air defence. theguardian.com/commentisfre…

Armenia’s upcoming parliamentary elections are unfolding amid growing polarization, external pressure, and geopolitical competition. In a new publication, Sergejs Potapkins, Researcher at the Latvian Institute of International Affairs, examines how the outcome could shape not only Armenia’s domestic politics, but also the broader balance of power in the South Caucasus. The article explores the risks of hybrid interference, the transformation of Russia’s role, growing Western engagement, and the question of what political model Armenia may choose after the election. Is Georgia moving further away from the European Union? In his new bulletin, @DionisCenusa, GSSC Associate Expert, examines how the Georgian government is reshaping its approach to European integration. EU membership is increasingly presented not as a strategic and value-based choice, but as a question of practical benefits. At the same time, pressure on civil society, independent media, and the opposition is growing. According to the author, Georgia is moving closer to the Azerbaijani model: maintaining pragmatic dialogue with the EU while avoiding the political and democratic commitments required for accession. This raises an important question for the European Union: how should it respond to a country whose society remains strongly pro-European, while its government is moving further away from the European path? What a week for the Geopolitics and Security Studies Center. We thank @Kyrylo_Budanov for sharing his reflections after the discussion held at GSSC on the lessons of Ukrainian resistance, the technological transformation of modern warfare, and what these developments mean for the security of NATO countries, including Lithuania. His message is clear: Europe’s security is being defended in Ukraine, and our common advantage over the enemy lies in technology, speed, and unity. Across four high-level events this week, GSSC is bringing together decision-makers, security experts, and international partners to discuss the key challenges facing Lithuania, Europe, and the transatlantic community. And the week is not over yet. Tomorrow, GSSC will host another event at Tesonet: a conversation with the President of the Republic of Finland, @alexstubb. More moments and insights to follow.
