It is without question that there are vast swathes on the Irish left who maliciously seek to conflate Irish republicanism and nationalism, both historically and ideologically, with liberal politics and causes which bare little relevance to the movement. These are people who care little for the Irish nation and the goals of the struggle, whose only intention is to exploit and co-opt a centuries long campaign for liberation to their own ends.
They should be rejected and challenged outright. They have no claim to these politics or the history that drove them.
While this is true, there exists a newer, similarly idiotic cohort on the Irish right who are monomaniacal in their attempts to conflate Irish republicanism/nationalism with either German national socialism or inbred American white nationalism. Like their trendy lefty-liberal counterparts, they also have no claim to the movement whose aesthetics they abuse and history they contort to their own ends.
They also need to be rejected and challenged outright.
An Ireland not free merely, but Gaelic as well; not Gaelic merely, but free as well should be the aim. Seeking to warp and distort this aim, whether it is in the service of the rainbow or the swastika should identify an individual as a subversive actor.
