The pancreas functions in digestion and maintenance of normal blood sugar. We study genes/pathways regulating development and function of pancreas cell types.
Great day for the lab yesterday! MPI grant with Stoffers and Soleimanpour labs scored in the fundable range, paper accepted to AJP Endo &Metab, one student given permission to defend, another student chosen as SEC scholar from Vanderbilt Congrats to ali! We should play Powerball.
So excited for my former graduate student Kathryn who just got engaged! It was great to catch up with her at lunch today. She has a hugely successful career in science writing. I am so proud of her!
How do you unwind after a week of great science and career development workshops? I went to hear the music of Led Zeppelin outdoors downtown Nashville with the Nashville Symphony!
We're learning about 'Targeting the opposing roles of PGE2 receptors, EP3 and EP4, in the pathogenesis of type one diabetes' from @JulieBurkett9 (PhD candidate 🙃 in the @GannonLab )

@GannonLab showing us that maternal western diet causes hyperinsulinemia in offspring #islets2023. Very interesting that the effects are so strong so early and seen pre-puberty. Data are in NHP
Recently published paper from our group...part of a larger consortium studying effects of maternal overnutrition on metabolic health of the offspring. So grateful to be part of this important project! scholar.google.com/scholar_u…
We are exited to be featuring speakers across all career stages including Dr. Aghazadeh (@Yassi_ag) and Dr. Krentz (@nkrentz) whose labs just opened in June!
Our lab is officially open @ircm_mtl with a gorgeous view of Mont Royal! If you’re around stop by to chat about regenerative medicine, diabetes, or dogs :)
Updated Pre-Print 🚨 Collaboration with @JanelKopp lab and others. Hyperinsulinemia acts through acinar cell insulin receptors to drive obesity-associated pancreatic cancer initiation by promoting digestive enzyme production and inflammation biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…
Dr. Gannon @GannonLab receiving the Lacy Medal for her meritorious career achievement in islet biology! Her lecture described her journey in science and many lab achievements and her rich mentoring history sprinkled with pearls of wisdom! What a gift to hear her sing! #MIC2023
Great to be back in person at the Midwest Islet Club meeting...first time since 2019. We are in Minneapolis this year. Congratulations to Drs. Bob Sorenson and Rafael Arrojo e Drigo on their scientific achievement awards!
Our high school intern for this past year graduated last night. We are so proud of him and will miss him. Thank you to Jen Fuhr my lab manager for being such an awesome mentor!!
Second Saturday every month (that I'm in town) I am a volunteer paleontologist at Fort Negley teaching visitors about Nashville's geological history and searching for fossils in the limestone. Seeing people of all ages get excited about science is rejuvenating!
Another exciting year of ELAM comes to a close! So honored to get to know and work with amazing women leaders from academic medical centers from around the country! Congrats to this year's graduates! #ELAM
Accepted manuscript from the lab out @MolMetab! The talented @ThaoDVLe and so many great collaborators show a novel Glp1r-FGF21 interaction that regulates body weight in response to high carb diets. Truly a sweet team effort! sciencedirect.com/science/ar…
