Former Deputy General Secretary of Prospect responsible for staff in public services, STEM, aviation, defence, energy and nuclear sectors. All views my own.
I am starting to feel a stranger in my own country. Not because of desperate people arriving by boat but because of the intolerance and hatred I see unfolding on our streets and a toxic narrative promoted by those who know exactly what they are doing.
We are better than this.
Each of my family members has refused to apply to do Race Across The World with me. I cannot fathom why. It’s almost as if they think I would be childishly competitive and intensely annoying.
News that Trump has signed an executive order banning collective bargaining for nearly 1 million US federal workers is incredibly worrying.
We stand in solidarity with our colleagues and sister unions overseas against these attacks on their union rights.
Govt to legislate to protect civil service from unfair criticism from ministers.
“It shouldn’t come to this”, said one minister, “but it has. Civil servants can’t defend themselves publicly & need protecting. It can’t always be up to FDA”
New regulator will oversee complaints.
“These are places which don’t always arrive on the public’s radar until they realise how important they are and that the people in them are experts.”

For the President of the United States to be making baseless, prejudiced, comments about dedicated air traffic professionals at this time is utterly deplorable.
We at @ProspectUnion send our solidarity to ATC colleagues in the USA and everyone affected by this tragedy.
Solidarity to colleagues in the USA affected by the terrible collision in Washington DC
The immediate conjecture and criticism of the background & ability of Air Traffic Controllers at the very highest level within the US is something we deplore
Statement from our @ATCOsBranch
After more than 20 years at Prospect I am stepping down as Deputy General Secretary at the end of the year. Prospect has been a fantastic union to work for and it has been a privilege to represent members across aviation, defence, energy, nuclear and public sectors.
I have worked with some great colleagues and made enduring friendships. I have been an advocate of partnership working where possible and robust challenge when needed. I leave Prospect with fond memories and wish colleagues and members all the very best for the future.
We want to see heritage recognised as an investment to protect and preserve for the next generation, and to reap the economic and cultural benefits that it brings to all our lives.

Tech Workers Branch Committee Vice Chair Domanic Smith-Jones attended the @uniglobalunion ICTS Conference in Cape Town recently 💻
Domanic introduced Prospect’s motion on the regulation of AI, with Uni Global delegates from across the world voting in favour.
The House of Commons has voted for risk-based exclusion upon arrest to protect Parliamentary workers by a single vote.
This is the culmination of years of campaigning by Prospect and many others.
Reaction from @mikeclancy1:
This is an important and overdue victory…
Mike Clancy, said: “Improving equality, diversity and inclusion in the civil service is "not a woke hobby horse" as claimed by some ministers. Instead, it speaks to the enduring values of the civil service of recruitment and promotion on merit....

Good industrial relations & economic success founded on dialogue, honest debate, and long-term partnership between government, employers & unions.
Labour plans for a new deal for working people would do that. The movement should get behind this plan.

Today, a new border between the UK and the EU comes into force, meaning imports of plants and animals will have to be checked by UK officials before being distributed around the country.
The Government hasn’t put in the effort to ensure sufficient inspections at the new border.
