It's unacceptable that people in Northern Ireland have to wait a decade longer for bowel cancer screening, missing five opportunities to prevent or diagnose the disease at its earliest stages when it's easiest to treat & cure. And it would save 70-100 lives a year, AND £££s.
We’re calling on the Northern Ireland Executive to lower the bowel cancer screening age from 60 to 50. Yesterday we hosted an event at Stormont, bringing together MLAs, healthcare professionals, and people affected by bowel cancer. Find out more: bit.ly/4mWaoI3

I know from personal experience: catching cancer early gives people more than a fighting chance. As part of our National Cancer Plan we’re increasing the sensitivity of bowel cancer screening to diagnose and prevent thousands more cases. thesun.co.uk/health/38017052…

This improvement to the bowel cancer screening programme in England will save more lives, detect cancers earlier and prevent more cancers too. Some great news to start the week.
Today @NHSEngland has announced that it will lower the threshold at which home-screening kits for bowel cancer will trigger a referral for further testing 📢 The NHS estimates that this change will lead to 35% more screening colonoscopies each year in England to help diagnose, rule out or even prevent bowel cancer. This is great news for people living in England and will save more lives from the UK's fourth most common cancer. Increasing the sensitivity of the bowel cancer screening test means more cancers will be found earlier or prevented altogether. #bowelcancer #screening
Thousands of cases of bowel cancer will be diagnosed earlier, or even prevented, as part of major NHS plans to increase the sensitivity of bowel cancer screening. Read more ➡️ england.nhs.uk/2026/01/nhs-d…

We welcome targeted support for those living in more deprived areas as they have been left behind for many years. We know they're less likely to take part in bowel cancer screening, which is one of the best ways to be diagnosed early with the disease when treatment has the best chance of working.
Cancer care shouldn’t depend on your postcode. Our National Cancer Plan will tackle health inequalities head on. That means more specialists in rural and coastal areas and access to the latest technology Learn more: gov.uk/government/news/gover…

As today is #BrewMonday, we’d like to take a moment to thank our wonderful community who are ready to listen, to care, and to offer a shoulder to one another. Brew Monday is a campaign by the @samaritans that encourages us to rethink the idea of a “Blue Monday.” It’s a reminder of the importance of reaching out.💛

This morning, our Chief Executive, @GenEdwards spoke with @BBCNews about this exciting research project. By analysing bowel cancer samples spanning decades, this project aims to uncover how the disease has changed over time. These insights could help explain why bowel cancer is increasingly being diagnosed in younger patients. To read more about this project click the article below 👇

The NHS bowel cancer screening kit can detect signs of cancer before you notice anything is wrong. If you’re sent a bowel cancer screening kit, put it by the loo. Don’t put it off. ➡️ nhs.uk/bowel-screening
