@washingtonpost Management, if you ax your in-house sports staff, you will lose much of your DMV subscriber base (which since you no longer have a national edition) is also much of your total subscriber base. Raise subscription prices instead to survive - or the Post will perish.

The Post’s coverage of sports of interest to subscribers has no similar regional competition. However, many news outlets cover the nation’s government and politics. The Post’s quality in these sections won’t keep up with quantity from other news sources. Raise prices to survive.

Appears the little lineup switch paid instant dividends. Alex Call led off with a walk and CJ Abrams followed with a double. Nats have second and third with one out in the first.

Although the heading of the linked article is overly broad, as the dangerous part of the Nats bullpen primarily concerns one guy (Jorge Lopez) within an abysmally poor early and middle relief pen, this article exposes the Nats player selection constraints. defector.com/a-dangerously-b…

Luis Garcia fails to throw to home to make an effort to get an out at the plate. With Senzel injured in warmup, he can go on the IL, and Lipscomb can be called up from AAA to start at 2B, where he belongs (with Garcia on the bench).

Mea culpa. My Spring Training post above reflected my doubts (and Davey’s then spoken concerns) about Luis’s intermittent lack of focus on fundamentals in the field and on the base paths. Lipscomb did have the better Spring, but Davey’s faith in Luis has been handsomely rewarded.

The most honest thing Davey said in his presser was, “He (John Turnour) [and his grounds crew - this addition inserted by me] had nothing to do with this.” Davey then emphasized “safety” for the players. No doubt Davey and Buck agree that it is “safer” not to tax their bullpens.

What are the Nats doing with Josh Rogers? He has not pitched in a game since Spring Training, and he is not being used in the 5-man starting rotation for Rochester.
