Environment Agency's Groundwater & Contaminated Land teams tweeting about our precious groundwater resources, groundwater quality, legacy of Brownfield/Landfill
💧Why #groundwater is important. It provides:
🚰 a crucial freshwater drinking source for millions of people
💧baseflows to rivers
💧supports wetland habitat
💧provides water for our food supporting farming irrigating crops & industry
Protect this vital source of water

Is flood risk really just about one source of flooding? Or do many communities live with the reality of multiple sources of flood risk?
Join host Katie and Dr Paul Ellis in the latest episode of Groundwater Rising as they deep dive into how groundwater plays a role in different flood risks.

💧Some great environmental measures are being undertaken on the #A417 road scheme in #Gloucestershire where a new watercourse has started flowing after being reconnected to #groundwater from nearby springs providing essential #baseflows 1/2
💧This well-designed environmental feature has been designed with @EnvAgencyMids specialists protecting the water environment & ecological habitats while also supporting the development. Grass seeding with tree planting is now taking place #kiergroup#kierhighways#nationalhways
ALT Crickley Hill stream flowing with Cotswold groundwater out of the limestone principal aquifer. Design has included geomorphological features with meanders and slacker pools and riffles. Vegetation growth will colonise and naturalise the channel creating a valuable water feature in a steep gradient/ valley upland setting on Crickley Hill, Gloucestershire

It will take more than a couple of weeks of wetter weather to make up for the long, dry spell we had over spring and summer.
With reservoir and groundwater still low across much of the country, it's too soon to say that drought and dry weather are over.
