2023 Season Preview: St Johns College High School
Perenial power St Johns College High School
@SJCHSBBALL finds itself in a situation it has been all too comfortable the last few seasons, favorite to win another WCAC championship in girls basketball. St. Johns was selected as the #1 team in the WCAC by the coaches in their DMV Hoops Report preseason poll.
Coach Jonathan Scribner, who has built a powerhouse at the DC school, returns four starters to his lineup from last years championship team including Kyndal Walker
@kynwalker_24 , Tatum Greene
@tatum_greene13, Carolae Barton
@BartonCarolae and Ava O'Neil
@theavaoneil. Perhaps the biggest question going into the season is who will step up and fill the loss of Delaney Thomas (averaged 15 points and 6 rebounds last season) who is now a freshman at Duke averaging 18 minutes a game.
Senior Kyndal Walker, headed to Maryland
@TerpsWBB next season, is the core of this experienced roster who is a likely WCAC player of the year candidate, will be looking for Tatum Greene (headed to Boston College
@BC_WBB) , who has shown flashes of dominating play to perform on a consistent basis to fill the void of Thomas. Fellow senior Carolae Barton is a physical post presence that is one of the best in the WCAC. She is headed to Navy
@NavyWBB and is a great get for that program as she has high mid major potential. Ava O'neil is also a Senior headed for Gettysburg
@GburgWBB next season, one of the top shooters in the WCAC who is a serious threat from three in transition and on Walker drive and kicks.
St. Johns has a loaded schedule that kicks off this week against Bullis
@BullisAthletics. Also looking forward to the St. Johns vs Mcnamara games this year featuring two of the top guards in the region for many years going head to head when Kyndal Walker faces up with McNamara senior Madison McDaniel
@maddy1mcdaniel a South Carolina commit. Look for St. Johns to lose a few games in the hotly contested WCAC, but be in championship form come March.
