PS Irrigation Hosts Israeli Ambassador to Discuss Techno-Agricultural Innovation Initiative
The Principal Secretary, State Department for Irrigation, CPA
@EphantusKim, today received a courtesy call from the Ambassador of Israel to Kenya, His Excellency Gideon Behar, at the Ministry headquarters.
The meeting focused on the Techno-Agricultural Innovation for Poverty Alleviation (TIPA) initiative, an Israeli development model aimed at reducing rural poverty and enhancing food security through affordable agricultural technologies, farmer training, extension services, and water-efficient irrigation systems.
During the discussions, the Ambassador highlighted Israel’s experience in supporting smallholder farmers through innovative irrigation technologies and capacity-building programmes. The initiative was noted to align closely with Kenya’s National Irrigation Sector Investment Plan (NISIP) 2025–2035, which seeks to expand irrigated agriculture, improve productivity, and strengthen food security.
The engagement also reaffirmed the longstanding cooperation between Kenya and Israel in the irrigation sector, including training programmes under MASHAV and the Jerusalem Declaration, which have equipped Kenyan irrigation professionals and young agricultural graduates with practical skills in modern irrigated agriculture.
Both parties expressed their commitment to strengthening collaboration in advancing sustainable irrigation development and agricultural transformation in Kenya.
