An utterly crushing day for Big Oil 1) Chevron investors demand emission cuts 2) Dutch court tells Shell to cut emissions by half 3) Exxon shareholders buck the company and elect directors demanding climate action. Thanks to all who fight--you push long enough and dominoes tumble

Never nice to see a stranded cetacean, but we collected some great data! #science #dolphin
Today, the team went out to a stranding of a male striped dolphin near Die Kelders. A full set of measurements and highly valuable biological samples were taken. These data will ultimately be used to further our understanding of cetaceans in South African waters.

New @GlobalChangeBio paper on the impacts of #climatechange on the recovery of #southernrightwhales from #whaling. As our oceans rapidly change, SRWs can alter their feeding behaviour. But, it doesn't appear to help their recovery @EmzLCarroll @LucV6 onlinelibrary.wiley.com/shar…

How does tech actually help whales? Read how the just-published #southernrightwhale #genome and #satellite tracking helps us learn about #whales and how their populations might fare in changing oceans. Pic: @docgovtnz permit #conservation #SGwhales theconversation.com/genome-a…

Ah. Interesting. Killer whales Port and Starboard recently reported in Cape Town now just down the road causing trouble eating endangered white sharks! A really challenging conservation conundrum this!

Famous killer whale duo, Port & Starboard, (probably) strike again off Gansbaai. They were spotted in False Bay on Friday and then this happened. Very informative read on the @MarineDynamics FB and website.sharkwatchsa.com/en/blog/cat…

Important new study propose that whale watching guidelines should be based on noise levels rather than distance alone. Well done @KateSprogis @SimoneVidesen and Peter T Madsen
Controlled exposure experiments and focal follows with drones improve our understanding of how whales respond to boats, by showing that whales respond to boat noise level 🚤🔊🎵🐋 See our new publication in @eLife bit.ly/2BRBSfv
