On the occasion of the World Food Day 2025, we are excited to launch "Foods of the Himalayas: Celebrating Indigenous Food Cultures Contest 2025" The TWG Mountain Food Systems of the Himalayan University Consortium (HUC) (Executive Secretary's Office of the HUC-in transition), in partnership with WHH Nepal - Welthungerhilfe and @NativeFoodscape , invites entries for an online contest highlighting traditional, ethnic, and Indigenous foods of the Hindu Kush Himalaya region. Winning entries will be announced on the International Mountain Day 11 December 2025 and in a short documentary and an e-booklet that will be published on partners’ outlets. Exciting Prizes for winners (Please refer to the contest submission link) Who can participate? Students, researchers, faculty members, and community partners from HUC member institutions and the public. Today, @GradyFFC and I had the honor of presenting certificates and prizes🏆 to student winners from Holy Cross School in Dimapur (Nagaland). These students participated in the "Our Food, Our Pride" activity led by @NativeFoodscape and @HUCSecretariat where they documented traditional dishes belonging to their own tribe and celebrated their vibrant culinary heritage as part of the UN FAO World Food Day 2024. Their projects and presentations were exceptional. Students are stewards of traditional food. Lets continue to support and motivate every learner. Holy Cross School, Dimapur (Nagaland, India) commemorated the #WorldFoodDay 2024 ‘Right to foods for a better life’, with a variety of activities 16th October. This event was supported by @NativeFoodscape and @HUCSecretariat to celebrate the rich and diverse culinary heritage of the Hill and Mountain People on #WorldFoodDay 2024. Students took study projects on traditional food of 12 indigenous tribes of Nagaland and shared their experiences through discussions, posters and samples of food. Sharing different dishes ignited meaningful discussions about cultural preservation. This event not only celebrated food but also culture and community, enhancing students’ appreciation for indigenous food diversity. The School’s Principal, Rev. Fr. Philip Y graced the occasion and activities were carried out under the guidance of Miss Temsumenla, School Counselor. The best 5 presentations were awarded to Phom, Yimkhiung, Lotha, Sangtam and Ao tribes.
