If Uruguay steals the group from Spain, we are likely looking at this Round of 32 matchup: Argentina vs Spain 🇦🇷🇪🇸

Spanish fans must be so proud. Haven't allowed a single shot on goal.

How often does a team score the last kick of the first half AND the last kick of the game? 🦅

Texas Tech's defense of their own actions is embarrassing.

Conferences used to be cool. Now the entire concept is just the worst.

IF Kentucky beats West Virginia (tied in extras), then either a 3 or 4 seed is GUARANTEED to win at least one game at the College World Series. ⚾

Two sisters, 14 & 15 years old, just knocked the national anthem out of the park at the Padres @Nationals game. Orchestra anthems need to become more common. Stirring performance. 🎻

All these coaches get bonuses for accomplishing certain goals. They should take out insurance plans that reward winning big. Win a national title during the contract, get a $20 million bonus. Win two? Get a $50 million bonus. Win three? Get $100 million. Pay big for success.

Neutral site games have been gaining steam simply because it's a new revenue stream while TV contracts are already locked in. In the 2030s, I'm expecting TV contracts to adjust and start rewarding home games in television friendly crazed environments.
Power 4 athletic departments will ask the fans to give more & more money. Then take a home game & move it to an NFL Stadium 5 hours away from their school’s campus.

Duke, UNC, Kentucky & Kansas could make 💰 setting up a Champions League. As the four highest-value TV brands, they could each host a neutral site pod where you play your whole pod in 3 straight days. The following weekend, all 16 teams come together for semis / finals.
Does the Duke-Amazon deal open a path to multi-million dollar, big-brand one-off games outside of a league’s television contract? More in our weekly @On3 sports biz column - on3.com/news/duke-amazon-dea…

There's a reason the Division 1 Basketball Committees have moved to Wins Above Bubble and NET as their two published metrics. You can factor in strength of schedule without punishing a team for winning.
This is disgusting that we are canceling college baseball games because even if you win your RPI will go down. I understand it happens every season. It’s still incredibly stupid. The games should be played man.

Expect the Wins Above Bubble (WAB) ranking system to get overhauled. My best guess is the NCAA will make it so the formula is based off how the 50th best team in the NET would perform against that team's schedule. But from a math standpoint, 55th best might be more accurate.

Mid majors could guarantee themselves additional at-large bids if they worked together on selection week ad hoc scheduling. With WAB & Strength of Record carrying so much weight, they could just do the math on who has a chance at positive WAB and schedule accordingly.
I called around this week to get reaction from coaches on tourney expansion. Most don’t love it, but they’re more passionate about how the field is selected and who is making the decisions for college basketball: nytimes.com/athletic/7245039…

Get ready for any decent power conference team to make the field now that 76 is happening.
If this season had a 76-team field, Oklahoma, Auburn, Indiana, San Diego St, Virginia Tech, and Oklahoma State were locks. Cal and Arizona State would've likely been the last two teams in.

UConn should still be a top title contender next year, but this is tough news for both Ball and the Huskies.
BREAKING: UConn's Solo Ball will miss the 2026-27 season following wrist injury and return for 2027-28 following a medical redshirt, per release. Averaged 12.8 PPG and made 77 three-point shots last season. Significant Big East News.

Do any NIL deals have language related to team performance? Adding clauses that a Final Four adds $2 million shouldn't be treated as pay for play. It should be treated as legitimate NIL. You can't tell me Yaxel, Mara and Cadeau didn't generate millions in March / April.
Some thought last year would be the peak for spending in college basketball because there basically were no guardrails before House went into effect. Nope. Story on the costs of building a roster this cycle (free for all to read): nytimes.com/athletic/7198289…
