The young have typically tended to vote on the left, seeing it as a vote against the status quo and the establishment, before gradually moving to the right as they got older.
But things are changing. In France’s latest elections, Marine Le Pen won more youth votes than the left, while Donald Trump’s youth vote in the last US election was a third higher than in 2020.
Should these new rebels be listened to as a challenge to a failed establishment? Or does this signal a breakdown of the traditional left–right divide?

This is difficult to watch, it's embarrassing, it's enraging, it's shameful.
Emma Reynolds the Secretary of State for the Environment and David Hill the head of water at Defra appeared before MPs on Tuesday where they repeated the same old lie, that water company shareholders invest their money in the companies and we, the bill payers, pay them back over 10, 15, 20, 30 years.
Even Ofwat have owned up, that's a lie the £104 billion "private sector investment" is coming directly out of your pockets, your bank account. For God sake just tell the truth.

Since privatisation water companies have taken more than £85billion in dividend and piled up more than £60billion of debt.
Yet all capital and operational costs are covered by bill payers.
So why keep a privatised structure for a natural monopoly like water?

Two things can be true at once. Rayner was foolish in her conduct and right to resign. It’s also true she was always despised by much of the right wing press because she was a working class powerful woman. She was therefore threatening to them, because she authentically spoke for the same people they (erroneously) claim to speak for and could not be dismissed as a liberal elite- their favoured tactic with anyone they don’t like. She’s therefore been the subject to endless snobbery and classism and extra scrutiny from day 1- another reason she was foolish not to be meticulous.

Meanwile there is a crisis in local govt. This deck chair organising isn't changing the sinking ship of social care and children’s services, which have been neglected for too long.
We need a new funding settlement for local govt - not unelected bureaucrats and new maps.

They also cancelled our elections so this has all been overseen by the squatting Conservatives in East Sussex CC.
This is already a huge democratic deficit.
This is compounded by Brighton's plans to expand East which my constituents in are really worried about.

In Sussex we are going to have a Mayor elected by FPTP as the govt’s plans are too disjointed so they cannot change the voting system until they have already been elected.
This is ridiculous as they are just undoing what the Tories did - how does this take years?

We need to empower local people not ministers otherwise we will not solve the problems.
Lots of people are contacting me because the councils are failing to deliver their services, and they have no one to turn too.
It is time for the government to listen to communities.

The govt claims its plans for local govt are "devolution by default" they aren't, they're centralisation by stealth.
