U.S. #corn yield falls 0.6 bu/acre from last month's forecast to 171.9. Illinois is expected to tie it's prior record, though lower yields in the Plains - Nebraska, South Dakota, Kansas - brought down the average.

Sounds like these magic seeds are really going to mess up the yield model
To combat rising hunger, Bill Gates argues for what he calls "magic seeds," which are modified to increase yields or resist pests. But some experts warn the technology is too slow to develop and conflicts with goals to reduce emissions. apnews.com/article/russia-uk…

Crop Consultant Dr. Michael Cordonnier cut his corn yield forecast by 3 bu. to 170 bpa amid the continued decline in crop condition ratings, persistent dry conditions in areas of the western Corn Belt & confirmation of lower yields from recent crop tours, including ours. #pfnews

These guys follow a proprietary model with multiple variables. Most folks’ ā€œguesstimatesā€ are based on biased inputs most of the time šŸ˜‰ This is one of the few that are not Much respect for their work šŸ¤™šŸ» Disclosure: My own *guess* is a 170-173 *final* yield #corn #harvest22

Fairly tight agreement among yield estimates should probably lead to a little more confidence they're in the right range This was true last year

I don’t disagree with you Duane. I’m more in the 172-175 camp than in the sun 172 camp. However, I like Graincast’s neutral approach & respect their work, so can’t discount it, even though I don’t see eye to eye currently.

If I were invited to do a podcast or commentary, I would say 2 things: 1) people are discounting the impact of late planting, and, 2) every single factor in our model; weather, rainfall, and several others, is negative this year. trend: 180, everything else subtracts.

Happy #pftour22 everyone. Our latest #corn yield forecast is 169.8. Warm weather in August has continued to take the best potential out of the crop.

Usually it's a mix. some factors add yield, some subtract. this year, everything subtracts.

It is a good time to reiterate that GrainCast has no bias about the crop or the market. It's simply a statistical model that you plug numbers in to, and it spits out a number. Today, this is the number it's spitting out. All the best to all the producers out there this year.

That 170.7 doesn't seem so crazy now with these #pftour22 results so far

Acreage changes in today's report added a fraction of a bushel to our forecast, it's now 170.7. we will see how the rest of the growing season plays out, bit it's pretty well baked by now.
