update: apparently we had a 2nd jar of curry powder in the back of the cabinet all the spice jars are equally easy to open yet toddler has only opened 2, both curry powders x.com/GrantSlatton/status/20…

toddler has apparently discovered how to unscrew the lids of spice jars he just brought me the lid to the curry powder he smells suspiciously like he's dumped the jar of curry powder on the kitchen floor how's your morning going

If the Fable thing is truly about the jailbreak and not some dumber political thing, I'm optimistic this will make labs spent the next 6 months figuring out much stronger anti-jailbreak tech which will also probably translate to better instruction following etc as a side effect

therapist: where does your need to compete come from? me: men are born for games. nothing else. every child knows that play is nobler than work her: do you think maybe it's unhealthy to stake your whole self worth on winning? me: the worth or merit of a game is not inherent in the game itself but rather in the value of that which is put at hazard. Games of chance require a wager to have meaning at all. Games of sport involve the skill and strength of the opponents and the humiliation of defeat and the pride of victory are in themselves sufficient stake because they inhere in the worth of the principals and define them her: oh, you're doing The Judge again me: trial of chance or trial of worth all games aspire to the condition of war for here that which is wagered swallows up game, player, all

we can still keep the golf carts for getting around the park tho, i am a golf cart maximallist x.com/GrantSlatton/status/20…

deeply annoying to me that it's not legal to drive a golf cart on city roads for local trips to the grocery store etc golf carts are way more pro-social than cars; easy to stop and chat to neighbors, interact with other drivers, etc i'm a golf cart maximalist

pattern i keep finding myself doing: 1. module X is a mess 2. make module Y inside it to encapsulate some complexity 3. boundary is fake, so more and more of X moves into Y over time 4. Y slowly subsumes all of X, X is deleted 5. goto step 1 each loop the ontology improves tho

Reminder that it's not cultural appropriation to dress up as a janissary if you're non-Turkish. That's kind of the whole point.

i increasingly desire an IDE / programming experience in which i operate in terms of type definitions, function signatures, and algorithmic complexity specs, and have AI fill in the details

new hobby: give gpt-5.5-low impossible task to grind on all night /goal improve performance of xyz benchmark by 100x. each change you land must improve it by at least a 10% with no more than 10 net lines of code doesn't finish but finds tons of little optimizations that stack

Do you think Claude laments how it no longer gets to do the work and the craft. It just manages other claudes? Do you think Claude has a Rawlsian theory of justice. And acts as if behind a veil of ignorance of which claude it would be in the RLM?
