I was thankful to be invited to present our ongoing work at the 2026 annual SAGES NBT Innovation Weekend at the Woodlands in Texas. During the “My Favorite Digital Tool to Improve My Performance” session, I presented our work on Spatial Computing in the OR to improve visual acuity and ergonomics in monitor-based operations and procedures. In the poll of the audience following all presentations, we received the highest number of votes for “the technology presented which I would like to have now”! We are using the @Apple Vision Pro and our @KARLSTORZ system to provide surgeons with 4K 3D virtual monitors that always allow 4K 3D viewing and placement of that monitor in the best ergonomic position. Our system allows for a primary laparoscopy and multiple secondary monitors. Intra-operative endoscopy, vital signs, intra-operative cholangiograms, laparoscopic common bile duct exploration, and intra-operative EndoFlip measurements have all been utilized on second and third virtual monitors. There are many additional advantages to this system and we believe that this is the future of digital visualization for monitor-based operations and procedures.

Happy to see that two of my residents, @JuliaSchroerMed and @priyalarun got to meet with a fantastic role model, Sallie Matthews, at the annual Women In Surgery Career Symposium in Tampa. Sallie is just one of many leaders in their field who shared the stories of their journeys to success. I hope that Priya Arunachalam and Julia Schroer absorbed that shared knowledge and made connections that will serve them and last throughout their careers. Creating tomorrow’s leaders today. @HMSurgery @HMethodistMD

Here at Houston Methodist Hospital we are collaborating with Karl Storz, Apple, and Fujifilm to provide our physicians with the highest resolution visualization during their monitor-based operations and procedures by viewing them with the Apple Vision Pro(AVP). This video depicts the AVP view of the completion endoscopy following repair of a large, Type IV paraesophageal hiatal hernia. From left to right, 3 virtual monitors show: 3D 4K Karl Storz laparoscopic image 1080p Fuji flexible endoscopic image** (Soon to be 4K!)
