Big Tech companies like Apple and Google have been given three months to activate built in safeguards on smartphones and tablets to detect and block nude images for children. This will prevent predators from exploiting and abusing victims through their devices, as well as stopping children accessing pornography. If companies do not act within three months, the government will bring forward legislation to force them to activate the technology. This will include fines for companies and, as a last resort, we are exploring criminal liability for tech bosses who fail to comply. 91% of online child sexual abuse reports recorded in 2024 contained self‑generated content. Children as young as five are being groomed, manipulated and coerced by online predators into creating and sharing explicit images. Predators then use these images to blackmail children into creating more extreme content and, in the most horrific cases, children have committed suicide on livestream or engaged in self‑harm. These features are not about surveillance or policing people’s phones - they are about protecting our children from vile predators. Over‑18s will still be able to view adult content by providing proof of age. There is no data collection, no monitoring and no reporting. The device will simply block harmful content across all apps and services. This will make Britain the first country in the world where it is impossible for children to take, share or view naked pictures on their devices.

NEW: Landlords and courts will get new powers to evict domestic abuse perpetrators from social homes, without the victim having to leave first. Under legislation introduced by this government, perpetrators will no longer be able to use social housing as a weapon of control. That's alongside building more homes and reforming the Right to Buy scheme, all part of our reforms to deliver stability for families in social housing.

Today @ofgem announced the next energy price cap.   We've already acted – cutting the price cap by £117 from April, expanding the Warm Home Discount to 6m households & freezing fuel duty.   Ahead of winter, we’ll continue to monitor the situation and plan for all contingencies.

NEW: Fuel duty will not rise this year. When global events push up prices, working people feel it first. That’s why we’re acting to keep costs down, extending the cut on fuel duty for the rest of the year. This will support millions of drivers and protect household budgets.

Right now some £10m homes are paying less council tax than a normal family home. It's not right and it's not fair. So this government is changing it.

This government backs small businesses. For too long, they have been forced to waste time chasing late payments, costing the economy and forcing businesses to close. We are delivering the toughest action in a generation to make sure small businesses are paid on time.

The war in the Middle East is not our war, but it is one we have to respond to. Every choice I make will be about keeping costs down for families and businesses, without repeating the mistakes we’ve seen in the past that resulted in higher inflation and higher interest rates.
The Monetary Policy Committee voted 8-1 to keep the interest rate at 3.75%. Find out more: bankofengland.co.uk/monetary…

I am horrified by the events in Golders Green today. The poison of antisemitism has no place in our country. Those responsible will be brought to justice. My thanks to Shomrim, Hatzola and our emergency services who put their safety on the line to help others.
