Xaqsoor Party Launches to Champion an Era of Justice and National Dignity
MOGADISHU, SOMALIA — A broad coalition of Somali citizens today announced the formation of Xaqsoor, a new political party committed to championing justice, unity, and shared prosperity for the nation.
The party’s launch is the culmination of more than a year of extensive consultations across a wide range of Somali society. Xaqsoor founders, including senior politicians, diplomats, youth, educators, journalists, and leaders from business and civil society, echoed the collective sense of betrayal and growing hopelessness felt by many Somalis toward a political system widely seen as enriching a narrow elite at the expense of the public good.
During the party's inaugural convention on July 14, founding members unanimously elected Abdirahman Aynte, a former Planning Minister, to serve as party leader. They also elected Abdi Ahmed Mohamed Baafo, a former Agriculture Minister and a respected scholar, as chair of the party’s Central Committee.
“Injustice is Somalia’s number one, two, and three calamity,” Aynte told more than a thousand supporters packed into a hall at Mogadishu’s Afrik Hotel during Xaqsoor’s launch ceremony. “When injustice goes unchecked, corruption flourishes, insecurity spreads, and clan divisions harden. We formed Xaqsoor to fight that injustice so the law protects every citizen, power answers to the people, and every Somali child can build a bright future right here at home.”
At the unveiling ceremony, the party leader introduced Xaqsoor’s founding Executive Council: two deputy leaders, a secretary‑general, and a 19‑member leadership team drawn from senior politicians, leaders from civil society and business, and youth.
The council includes leaders responsible for key areas such as party development, good governance, youth, diaspora affairs, and social services.
“Xaqsoor, as the name suggests, is more than just a political party. It’s a cause powered by Somalis from every corner and generation, united to build a nation where justice lights the way and the people’s interest stands above all else,” said Abdi Baafo.
Grounded in Islamic principles and Somalia’s rich culture, the party seeks to mobilize the nation’s “silent majority”: the millions of citizens who demand a fundamental shift toward a political system of governance built on justice, transparency, and equality.
This launch comes at a pivotal moment for Somalia, one rich with opportunities to strengthen its statehood, unlock its immense economic potential, and secure a dignified life for every citizen.
By championing governance rooted in justice and transformation, Xaqsoor offers a clear path toward systemic reform. The party is committed to confronting injustice and endemic corruption to build a nation that works for all Somalis.
Moving forward, Xaqsoor will launch a nationwide mobilization campaign to build its grassroots support and prepare for upcoming elections.
