Proud to speak for so many communities this week, many who need the London Assembly to amplify their voice. From exploited domestic workers to trapped leaseholders. Grateful to everyone working with me to make London fairer, safer and more compassionate.
ALT My Weekly Update Hina Bokhari OBE AM • Attended the Fire Committee’s investigation into the threat posed to the health of London’s firefighters by contaminants. • Appeared on Islam Channel to talk about my story in politics so far, and why I think being politically active is so important. • Proposed two motions to the London Assembly, one to improve investigations with an into tragedies like Grenfel with a National Oversight Mechanism and a motion on protecting domestic workers from exploitation and modern slavery. Both of which passed the Assembly. - Questioned Deputy Mayors about missed accessible housing targets and leaseholder rights. • Seconded a motion calling for the Mayor to improve training on religious hate crime including Islamophobia, which also passed. * Supported ALDC training sessions for LibDems. • Will be campaigning alongside Hackney Liberal Democrats this weekend – speaking to residents about the issues that matter to them. During an Urgent Question on the economy I pressed the Chief Secretary to the Treasury, @darrenpjones on his bogus claim the budget has kick-started growth and the urgent need to re-engage with Europe.
His guarded response was disappointing, but not as disheartening as the baleful jeers from the Conservatives when I mentioned the EU.
